Chrysler Recalls 213,000 Vehicles - The 2012 Jeep Patriot and Compass have been recalled for fuel system problems that are most likely calling engine stalling.
My Patriot stalls out when it warms up, and will not crank or start until it cools off. Then it starts until it warms up and stalls again as if I just turned the key off, it makes no surge or sputter, it just dies. When it stalls and I try to start it, there is no crank, it makes no sound, no click, no buzz, no nothing. All of the electronics inside work, the radio, dash lights, door locks, headlights, etc. It is a 2012 and out of warranty, but it has very low mileage (17,500), and should not have a problem like this. From what I see, there are an awful lot of Jeep and Dodge vehicles that are having similar problems and I believe that it is a manufacture defect. I think that the government should force Chrysler to address these problems because this is definitely a safety issue.
The car cuts off then restarts within minutes. as of right now I cannot push the rpms past 3,000 or it will stall so I just let it coast up to 25-35mphs and have to take side streets to get to work. there are recalls for the fuel systems and TIPA's for other models and makes under Chrysler but none of them cover my Jeep. Hoping to have an answer to the problem added by the end of the week.
This is the second day in a row the vehicle has stalled and started back up on me. This time on the freeway at about 60MPH. There seems to be an ongoing problem that both Chrysler is ignoring and that the dealerships are having a tough time diagnosing. When are we going to get a recall into this problem like the other recalls for similar problems have already been implemented for certain Jeep Patriots, Dodge Durangos, and Jeep Cherokees.
Driving back from trip to Las Vegas, after 2 1/2 hours on the road engine died going about 70mph, was able to get to shoulder but complete loss of engine power. No warning, no warning lights. Had vehicle towed to nearest dealer. They had it for 3 day and could not find problem or duplicate problem. Called Chrysler, they said I had to deal with it on a dealership level, but dealership cannot figure out why...Seems to me these vehicles are garbage...
My Jeep stalled at 45 mph and didn't want to start. After towing it started like nothing ever happen. Well it happen again in a bad whether away from home. It is very serious problem.

A similar thing happened to me today. Added info if anyone is listening out there (Jeep/Chrysler). 1/4 tank of gas, about 10 minutes before was in bumper to bumper stop and go traffic due to an accident for about 15 minutes, was just beginning to go up an incline on the highway. Couldn't restart right away. Restarted in abut 15 minutes running too rough to keep started. Turned off, Towed to dealer. They said it started fine and showed no codes.
Car was supposedly "fixed" by dealer after engine died the first time at 1887 miles. Car was driven 167 miles and died again while traveling at highway speeds, had 1/4 tank gas. All systems shut down, no warning lights or other indicators of possible problems-- again, we could have been killed. Second dealer claims the problem is with the saddle design of the gas tank. Three is a tube that is supposed to transfer fuel from one side of the gas tank to the other to keep the gasoline level. The tube becomes defective/kinked in hot weather and stops transferring fuel; consequently the vehicle thinks it is out of fuel and shuts down. Weird thing is you never get a "low fuel" indicator! We have lost complete confidence in this vehicle-- have almost been killed twice and will not allow anyone to drive it.
Purchased vehicle new, drove 1887 miles from MI to NM and suddenly died while traveling on expressway. Car was towed to dealer who installed a PCM--but he did not have codes telling him what was wrong to cause to failure. It was very hot, 110 degrees, car had 1/4 tank of fuel. There were no warning lights, no engine surges-- car just died in the middle of the road. We were fortunate to not be killed by traffic.
Brand new jeep - towing a small U-haul; daughter & new baby & granny driving from Tucson, AZ to Anchorage -- bought a new vehicle so we'd have no problems; the thing crapped out totally about 90 miles north of Tucson near phx; called Jeep 800 # & they towed to dealer -- sat around all day and at 2 PM they cranked it up and it runs just fine; no codes, no evidence a problem ever occurred -- we'll see if it keeps up
