I purchased my 2014 Jeep Patriot on Black Friday 2014; had 16K miles off the lot. Was told it was used as a rental. Fast -forward to 2017; started earlier this year in the cold season and only goes on when I turn the heater on. Just wondering what the noise is coming from; its inter-mittent; also loud then quiet. Vehicle is out of warranty and hoping for an easy fix! Found this by searching for resolutions of the same issue I am having.
Knocking noise every time I hit the lock remote or have the AC or heater on. Knocks for about 12-15 times then stops. I'm no psychic, but this feels like a premonition of money leaving my pocket in an expedient manner.
Took to mechanic recently to replace water pump, again, and they didn't mention knocking sound. Of course if they saw a beating heart protruding from the exhaust manifold they wouldn't tell you because you didn't mention it when it was brought in. "Oh, we thought that beating heart was a modification you done- we don't address them obvious issues, you have to request us to look so we can add that to the bill, see? By the way, we noticed some slight condensation on your radiator so we flushed the whole system and put in the most expensive anti-freeze known to man...we just added that to the bill, see?"
