We recently purchased 2008 Jeep Patriot and was told by a mechanic that the sub-frame is rusted through. We were told that it was manufacture defect of the AC drain runs on or through the sub-frame which accelerates the rusting process. There was a 10 year 150,000 miles extended warranty on this part which has expired but we were unaware of this as it was before we bought the Jeep.
To make matters worse that was only this past February (for the 10 years) but we still only have 122,000 miles on the Jeep. We have taken it to the local Jeep dealership and they will not honor the warranty. We were given a quote of $942.76 to fix the problem. They also told us we could call Jeep Cares at 1-800-992-1997 and they also said they can't help us. We are waiting for a supervisor to call us back from Jeep Cares but that hasn't happen either.
Clearly in reading the forums this is a common problem and a huge safety issue. We bought this Jeep for our 16 year old son and safety is a major concern for us. We want Jeep to work with us is covering the cost of this safety issue. Please Help....
The transmission went out on my Jeep. When we went to get it replaced, the auto repair place said the rear frame was completely rusted and replacing the transmission would most definitely break the rusted frame and they would need to replace the frame too. So fixing our Jeep will cost ~$3,000 and it's only worth $4,500!
Can't get my 2008 Jeep Patriot inspected as the front frame holding the steering column has rusted form the inside out, Emailed Chrysler as I know they provided a extended rust protection on the 07 models. Have a 2003 Ford with no frames issues, seems like this is a premature failure
I have a 2008 Jeep patriot that i purchased new and was just going to change the oil and run it into the ground. I Just took it for its regular oil change and the mechanic put it up on the lift and showed me the subframe is almost rusted through! It has 126,000 and driven in a snowy part of country but come on. I already replaced ball joints and misc other suspension parts a long time ago. Jeep-You're not as good as you used to be. Sadly, I will not purchase another Mopar product.
Took my car to my mechanic for a safety check because as the only driver I knew something was not right. He called me and told me the subframe was completely rusted through and that I needed to contact Jeep because this is a manufacture problem. Took the Patriot to the Jeep dealership where the service manager (not a mechanic) gave his opinion to Chrysler Jeep that I live in a snowy state and this happens. Jeep will NOT stand behind there product.
In June of the previous year my vehicle was serviced by the same dealership where they were replacing rear parts and broke something else in the process. I got a call that it was going to cost me that much more to fix what they broke. Jeep is an awful company to deal with and I will NEVER purchase a Jeep or Chrysler vehicle again. I will not support a company that will not stand behind there product.
I purchased this Jeep one year ago. When I took it to get inspected they show me this rusted piece of crap.The problem is obviously a design flaw, that Jeep or the Dealership wont stand good for. The A/C condenser drain is directly above the front Kframe, continuously dripping and rusting it away. The first bolt that was taken out water rushed out. Fixing the problem is easy just put an extension on the drain hose, about $10. The real problem is replacing that Kframe, which alone costs $597 then another $350 in labor.
If you own a Jeep Patriot I highly suggest fixing this problem before it occurs to you. As a do-it-yourself kind of guy its one hell of a job if you don't own a lift.
