CarComplaints.com Notes: On August 16th, 2012 Jeep stopped production of the the Jeep Liberty, marking the end of a troublesome journey for the SUV.
All in all, the 2012 Liberty actually excels off-road, but since 99% of drivers never take this thing off pavement, that becomes somewhat of a moot point. The Liberty suffers from the worst fuel economy in its class (16/22 MPG) and offers an uncomfortable ride with suspect braking ability.

I bought my car brand new in 2012. In 2015 I had an issue with my skyslider and had to have the entire top replaced. It was just over 3 years old with 56,395 miles on it.
Now in Sept of 2018, it failed again. I have always had terrible wind noise and leaks that they would do nothing about. I always hand washed and never took it through a car wash. It states this in the manual. Anyhow, this second problem occurred less than 3 years after I had it replaced the first time and less than 20,000 miles were put on the vehicle during this time. It was rarely opened since my husband was driving it during this time frame. We took it to Rick Hendrick Jeep Chrysler Dodge in North Charleston, SC where we bought it from. They determined that the cable broke (again) and I needed a new rear drive unit to go along with it. OK, no big deal, we will get it fixed because I can't have it open and flopping around in the wind. We allow them to fix it. It has now been in the shop for over 3 months. There are NO parts for these tops. They have been discontinued. The company that made them went out of business.
Out of frustration, I contacted Chrysler. I get assigned a case. They were able to get 1 cable and said the other parts would be expedited soon after. I find out at the end of November that they cannot get the rest of the parts as there are none available. They assured me that we could get parts by January of 2019 since a new up and coming company would be manufacturing them. So my car sits and their shop torn apart until that happens. Well now in mid December, I receive a call that this new company will NOT be making the parts. I am told to get it closed and never make the mistake of hitting the button to open it. Well I have 3 little kids. I am sure at some point in time, they will push the button out of curiosity. They still have yet to put my car back together. I am searching desperately for parts and running into dead ends everywhere. I am waiting to hear back from a guy that is searching junk yards for me. My dealer said they cannot install anything from a junk yard but I am willing to try and have someone at a convertible shop give it a try. This is complete NONSENSE!!! What happens when all of these tops break (and they WILL) and every single person that drives a vehicle with a skyslider has to screw it down. The resale value is completely ruined! They need to recall this POS skyslider!!
I recommended to my dealer to put a glass top or a hard top on it and he said the warranty will not pay for me to "customize" my car. Are you serious??? You can't fix it properly so you should do something that is still suitable, not telling me that I am out of luck. I think I forgot to mention that it was still under the extended warranty. I bought the 6 year warranty! Paid off the first time but now I am just screwed! Upon digging trying to find parts, I find forum after forum complaining about the problems with the skysliders.
There is even a Facebook page called "Jeep SkySlider Roof Problems!" Now tell me that this isn't an issue when hundreds of people have found their way to a facebook page. I hope Chrysler is made to fix or compensate every single one of us for all of the aggravation!!! PS - The 2019 Wranglers are now coming out with a similar roof called the Sky One. Don't make the mistake and buy anything with a top like this!!!
