CarComplaints.com Notes: On August 16th, 2012 Jeep stopped production of the the Jeep Liberty, marking the end of a troublesome journey for the SUV.
All in all, the 2012 Liberty actually excels off-road, but since 99% of drivers never take this thing off pavement, that becomes somewhat of a moot point. The Liberty suffers from the worst fuel economy in its class (16/22 MPG) and offers an uncomfortable ride with suspect braking ability.

Ok, I bought my 2012 Jeep Liberty in May 2019, used from a dealer. Drove her 8 MONTHS when the ETC light came on, then went off. Then she died all together. Dealership (different dealership) said she needed a new engine because the oil was burned and mine had locked up. Her engine locked up because.....the radiator was full of sludge. So she needs a new radiator. OH AND she needs a new heater core because hers was full of...SLUDGE!!!!!
So, here I am having to pay for the repairs because I at first accused the dealership I bought her from of not doing the right thing. Only to be told this is a JEEP issue. I owned an 2008 Jeep Liberty from her "birth" to her "death" thanks to Harvey, almost 10 years and never had this kind of issue. NEVER!!! I went BACK to JEEPS because I had 2 other cars not work for me!
NOW I was told that Jeep Wranglers have a class action lawsuit for the sludge. Does this also include the Libertys? I would like someone else to pay for the repairs I am about to for mine.
Update from Jan 29, 2020: 1/29/2020 -ALL LIBERTY OWNERS, ALL JEEP OWNERS WITH THIS ISSUE. I JUST spoke with a person named Debbie at the Jeep complaint people 866-726-4636. She (it was a real person) read my complaint, heard my issue and said that this was a known issue with Jeeps. There is currently a LAWSUIT for WRANGLERS for THIS ISSUE, but NOT FOR LIBERTY'S.
PEOPLE WE NEED TO GET THIS WORD OUT, SO THEY WILL COVER THE REPAIRS. They want it taken to a dealership and I told her no freaking the dealership wanted MORE than $11,000 for the repairs. I explained I found a mechanic will do the work 1/2 the cost.
She also told me that if there were enough people filing complaints about this issue they would look at this issue again. That tells me, as it should you as well, that THEY KNEW THIS WAS AN ISSUE AND HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING BECAUSE US OWNERS HAVEN'T MADE ENOUGH NOISE. LETS MAKE SOME NOISE, PEOPLE!!!
