CarComplaints.com Notes: On August 16th, 2012 Jeep stopped production of the the Jeep Liberty, marking the end of a troublesome journey for the SUV.

All in all, the 2012 Liberty actually excels off-road, but since 99% of drivers never take this thing off pavement, that becomes somewhat of a moot point. The Liberty suffers from the worst fuel economy in its class (16/22 MPG) and offers an uncomfortable ride with suspect braking ability.

Took to the Jeep dealership. They kept the car for two weeks and said; we do not know what is wrong. Took my Jeep to a second dealership who found the problem one week later. Both dealerships took the car home every night to experience the problem. One month later the problem was resolved by replacing the TIPM at a cost of $1391.20.

The problem was all dash lights came on and started to blink. The headlights were turning on and off, the wipers came on, the speedometer and all gauges would not work. At times the headlights went off while I was driving home from work at 12am. Broke two sets of wipers because I could not turn them off and I could not spray the windshield with water because the pump did not work. The car radio went out and never worked again.

The car was a hazard to drive, but had to go to work. I found out there was a lawsuit on this issue.

It was 5:30 in the morning and 17 degrees on Route 77 when the engine light came on and the light underneath the engine light that looks like a red lightning strike with parentheses around it came on and the traction light on along with check four wheel drive light. Eventually I lost power and coasted to the side of the road where I called road assistance and they came and towed the car to the nearest dealership where I had to spend the night due to them not having the part which was with regards to that red striped lightning strike throttle thing. Made it all the way to Virginia when it broke down again and that's another story.

This has happened now a few times. My wife was driving on the highway and the car lost all power. All dashboard lights came on car stalled out on the highway. My wife was scared for her life as vehicles kept passing her and not to mention the tractor trailer that almost hit her. She luckily was able to roll to the shoulder but she was unable to use brakes as the car was all locked up. Scary situation. Her transmission now feels a clunk sometimes when shifting. Her parents had a recall on their Jeep Commander with the same issue. It was fixed at no cost as this is a safety hazard. Imagine if a 18 wheeler hit her! She could have died. I called the recall center and they said their are no recalls for this. Hopefully this gets resolved without me having to pay anything. It shouldn't take a major injury or death for Jeep to realize this is a Safety Hazard. Imagine if this were your Spouse, daughter, son, Mom, Dad.

I started off by driving down hill on highway 40. All vehicle lights lit up on dashboard, enging stalled, no brakes or steering. I shifted the vehicle to neutral and was able to come to a stop on the shoulder of the road when the vehicle started up the next hill. No turns, the road was straight. Turned the key off and restarted the vehicle, and the Jeep ran fine. Later that day in a parking lot, the same thing happened. Started the vehicle, started to pull out of the parking lot, all of the dashboard lights came on, the engine stalled and had no brakes or steering. Placed the vehicle in neutral until the Jeep came to a stop, turned the key off, then restarted the vehicle and the Jeep ran ok until we got home. Will be calling the Jeep dealership to try to resolve problem.
