Took my Jeep to an off-road shop to have a lift kit and new wheels & tires installed. About an hour later they sent me this picture. My Jeep isn't exactly spotless (it's 10 years old and is driven in Ohio) but this is the absolute worst corrosion I've ever seen. It isn't fixed yet, but I'm thinking the only thing that can be done is replace the entire CV axle.
I removed the wheels to replace the front brakes and found the ends of both front axles and axle nuts corroded into a yellow powder that I could remove with my fingers. We are the second owner of this Jeep, it has always been taken care of and a daily driver (never a trail Jeep or near the ocean).
I don't know how we are going to remove these axles short of cutting them with a torch. The nut is unidentifiable and no visible threads remain on the axle. There is no similar corrosion found anywhere else on the Jeep, the issue seems to be confined to the front axles and nuts.
