We had a fire in the engine compartment. Fire started at the engine manifold ! We took pictures of the damage! This could have killed my son in law ! We gifted the vehicle to him so it could be used as a station vehicle. A dangerous situation Exist ! There is no recall or acknowledgment of this problem being identified!

When filling fuel tank to full capacity and fuel flow is shut off, fuel comes back up out of fill port spilling at least 2 cups of gas over filler and ground. Happens every time tank is filled full. This occurs while vehicle is stationary engine off while at any gas station. It is an apparent failure on a valve in the gas tank requiring entire tank to be replaced at the owners expense. Is a known issue to manufacturer.

When starting vehicle it will not turn over. It continues to crank until ignition is switched off. This problem does not happen all the time and is very unpredictable. Typically after several attempts the vehicle will start up correctly. The vehicle has done this in the cold and in the heat, after running fine all day or sitting turned off over night.

Skid plate and straps on fuel tank is rusting all apart. It has rusted enough there is hole you can put your figure in and actually touch plastic tank. The rest of skid plate is rusted so much you can see the layers of the metal separating. Vehicle only had around 62,000 miles when it was fist found and it at this point of rusting. Vehicle has never been off road and was taken excellent care off including prompt removal of any road salt. Last 3 1/2 years has not been driven very rarely when it has snowed more then an inch until roads were completely clear. As of 3/14/2019 when it was taken to dealership to be checked out there were no replacement parts available and there was no idea when there would be per the dealership when they called to check on parts. Estimated cost for repairs per dealership will be almost $1000. Per dealership the rusted skid plate and straps lives gas tank vulnerable in a crash or to object intrusion. Also if straps rust enough could case gas tank to drop. Personally I feel this should be a recall problem since it is not something that would be easily found and could cause death or injury. It had not been found during route maintained and I only found it by accident when it was up on a rack and mechanic was showing me something else. More than likely there is a large amount of same model and year vehicles on road with this same issues that owners are unaware of. Jeep did a recall on 2005 Liberty before due to vulnerability of gas tank concerning the hitch. And should do the same with this as it leaves the gas tank vulnerable and should never be occurring. It is strictly a case of using inferior material on a vulnerable part.

The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Liberty. While the contact was filling the fuel tank, the fuel pump sensor did not alert her that the tank was full. As a result, fuel spewed out of the tank. The failure recurred numerous times at different fuel stations. The contact stated that she could not fill the fuel tank because fuel would flow out. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the fuel station pump sensors failed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

When fueling the gas spits back onto the car and attendant on fill-ups since I live in NJ we don't pump are own gas so my attention was on the attendant. The attendant explained to me that this happens to a lot of the Jeep products and after researching it does seem like a chronic problem that somehow doesn't meet the safety level for the nhtsb to issue the proper recall? I'm dumbfounded

Several years ago there was a recall on my fuel tank for gas over spilling while fueling the car. That was replaced but now I can't fill my tank completely because when I do the inside of my car smells of gas fumes from the tank up to the front seat. There is also an issue with the car staling at a stop or the ignition having trouble catching when I crank the car.

When filling this vehicle with gas, gas with spew out all over the car and the person holding the nozzle that is still in the gas tank. No matter what gas station used/pump and no matter how slow or fast it is going. I do not " top off". the spillage can be between a cup to a half gallon for no reason in particular. This is a very dangerous issue and needs to be resolved.I have to guess each time how much to put in so I can limit the amount of fuel spillage. This has been happening for years with no resolution.

The fuel tank support rusts out from the inside to a point that it seems very unlikely it would be structurally sound in the event of an accident. It is very concerning that this would not puncture the tank and be a cause of fire instead of protecting the tank as it is marketed to do. There has been no incident yet, but after an accident would not be the time to find out. Chrysler has reviewed this and will not take action.

Amongst other issues: Vehicle fails to start occasionally, from both cold and warm states. From completely off, turning the key begins ignition but often does not start the vehicle. Engine sputters but does not complete the start. On some occasions, depressing the gas pedal while trying to start the vehicle works, leading me to believe this is one of the widely reported tipm issues plaguing Jeep from 2007-2014. I conclude the fuel pump fails to receive a signal to start from the tipm which causes the ignition failure. In addition, I have had multiple electrical issues including doors locking and unlocking when the opposite corresponding buttons are pressed, windshield wipers turning on when the turn signal is used, warning lights on the dashboard reporting non-issues, failure of power steering, and failure to accelerate when the gas pedal is depressed. Please address this issue as soon as possible.

Purchased vehicle used in 2013 11/17/2015 1. engine continues to run when key is removed from ignition switch. While parked. First noticed last week 11/08/2015 (only as long as the preset time on the radio shut off or the door is opened) 2. with cruise control set and going up hill, transmission down shifts to maintain speed. While trying to keep speed up and then break applied, excessive force is required to dis-engage cruise control. While driving at normal speeds. For as long as I can remember. (break switch has been changed twice) 3. while filling fuel tank at gas station, paying close attention to the pump, fuel will pour out from the filler neck after the pump has shut off. For as long as I can remember. (many occasions) 4. check engine light continuously on. Possible damage to hoses on emissions canister in left rear wheel well due to gas spillage? (as long as I can remember) 5. gas cap indicator comes on at start. Possible damage to hoses on emissions canister in left rear wheel well due to gas spillage? (need to manually turn off, changed gas cap twice) 6. it seems that all things electrical have a delay to their function, flashing high beams, honking horn... while parked or driving. For as long as I can remember. (all of the time)

When filling the vehicle with gas there is a "burp" that pushes gas out of the pipe to the tank. It's like the tank isn't venting, and building pressure when filling. This happens on evey fill-up. I thought the service station shut off were the problem, but after being on a web site, there are alot more with the same problem.
