The car won't turn over and the doors won't lock. Been going on for months. At the dealer they have replaced battery, starter and had the wiring harness replaced. Now they tell me to have the TIPM replaced and that may fix the problem.

This problem started very early with the Jeep. I took it to the dealer 3 times and they were unable to diagnose what was wrong with it as it never happened when they had the Jeep.

I finally took a video and showed it to the service writer and mechanic and they still didn't know what was causing the problem. I then put the video on YouTube and a Chrysler Tech determined what the problem was. Coincidentally, the dealer said the only thing they could find wrong with the vehicle was that the fuel pump was leaking down and not holding pressure. They didn't have one in stock and ordered one.

The next time I took the Jeep there, they replaced the pump under my extended warranty. A few days later I saw the response on YouTube regarding what was causing the problem. Sure enough the problem was repaired by replacing the fuel pump. The dealer mechanic didn't know there was a connection between the starting problem and the fuel pump leaking down. The system has this function designed into it. It's called Tip Start. If the fuel pump is not working properly the ignition will stay in starting mode until the fuel pump builds enough pressure to start the engine. Since replacing the fuel pump the problem has never occurred again.

Not too long ago, the wife took our 2008 Jeep Liberty to the store, once she was done shopping she went back and tried to drive home but couldn't. So the wife called me and said that the car would not start, adding that the odometer read "ERROR", and that a red flash symbol was lit on the dash. So there we were, our only car was in the parking lot of a Publix shopping center and we could not drive it away. Luckily my parents, who live over an hour away, had just arrived at my house to visit our family. Well, after waiting for a tow truck to arrive and tow the car home, our handy tow truck guy, he was able to spark start the car via messing with the car starter, he then told us that he believe we had a bad starter. We then drove our car home, but once parked and turned off, it would not start again. The next day I took the starter to AutoZone and had the starter tested numerous times and found out that it was not defective. After doing some further digging, I bought a new battery and installed it. I haven't had a problem since.

While at the dealership I found out about the TIPM, according to the person I spoke with there was no warning light associated with this error. So basically you will have to experience the TIPM going bad, without any warning at any given time. So far, we have yet to replace the TIPM because of the cost, that's a lot of money for us, but we have been able to drive it around since we purchased the new battery. Hoping that it holds up until we can fix it, or a recall comes out soon.
