On 3/4/13, my daughter drove her 2008 Jeep Liberty back from Boca Raton to St. Petersburg, a 4 hr. ride. After 2 hours, she noticed the car was losing power & immediately pulled over. She opened the hood & saw the engine had overheated and called AAA & was towed back to St. Pete (200 miles) to Dayton Andrews Dodge where it was purchased. The next day, the service dept. called & said the water pump failed causing the engine to overheat. They said the engine would need to be replaced & they would have to contact Chrysler sine the bill exceeded $3,000. That Friday the Service Manager at Dayton Andrews Dodge called saying Chrysler had denied our claim & gave us a phone# to call. My wife called & they were closed. OnTuesday the following week I spoke to someone at Chrysler who said: "the claim was denied because the car was driven for 172 miles in an overheat condition". I told the rep that no warning light ever went on nor did the temp. gauge indicate that the car was overheating. He replied: "I don't know that... I wasn't in the car". The 1st part of my daughter's drive was 1 1/2 hours of driving across "Alligator Alley" basically interstate 75 thru the Everglades. The head of the Service Dept. at Dayton Andrews told me that if a driver was on interstate going 65 mph with air on and windows up, they would not be aware of a problem until it was too late. I asked the claims rep if he was saying it was driver error, & he said no... again repeating "the vechile was driven 172 miles in an overheat condition". The car was purchased with 43,000 miles and was under warranty. I had extended it & it is good until 2014. I have talked to 3 people at Chrysler, and all say the decision of the people in claims/warranty division is final. The car was in Dayton Andrews in December 2012 for an oil change & checkup. The Service Dept. has a complete record of our maitenence, including oil changes ever 3,000 miles. This doesn't seem to matter to the people at Chrysler- they sell you warranties but when it comes time to make good, they give you the run-around. They admit there was "a failure of the water pump" which caused the problem with the engine. Both the water pump & engine are covered under the warranty (which I extended at the encouragement of Chrysler), but they are unwilling to accept ANY responsibility. The cost of replacing the water pump, starter, sepentine belt & engine (used-41,000 mi.) was $3,650.00... Dayton Andrews helped to try & keep the cost down. In closing, I will never buy another Chrysler product & pass this on to anyone else. I encourage other who have similar issues with Chrysler to respond...again they push selling the warranty, but when it comes time to make good, they are full of excuses.
