The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Liberty. The contact confirmed the driver was traveling 5 mph when the driver's front wheel detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 76,803 updated 08-07-12 chrylser informed the consumer the ball joints were replaced in 2007. However, two mechanics verified the ball joints and stated they were the original ball joints. The lower ball joints were replaced nd the upper ball joints were in need of replacement. The consumer stated the original ball joints were not lubricated and when the boots became torn/cracked it allowed dirt and water to get into the joint, which caused excessive wear. Updated 08/09/12
