When pumping gas, it does not automatically shut off, and the gas overflows. I had it looked at, and they said the entire gas tank would need to be replaced.

Every time I fill up my gas tank it overflows before the nozzle shuts off. This has happened routinely at multiple gas stations. I have stopped trying to completely fill up my tank but if someone else fills my tank and does their math wrong the gas starts spilling out onto them and the ground. I have taken it to a local dealer about the issue and they wanted to replace my entire tank and I would have to pay over $1,000 for them to do so, even though its a known problem in other Jeep models. This is a safety hazard and has the potential to do great harm to someone. I have not been in any accidents which shows that's its a structural/component issue and not that it somehow got knocked out of wack.
Everytime I get my gas tank filled on my Jeep Liberty it spills over onto the vehicle and the ground and makes my car smell of gas for a couple of days after, this first occurred while I was at a full service gas station I heard the pump stop followed by gas pouring out and the service attendant yelled, Jeep must be full! naturally I told the gas attendant he overfilled my tank and his response was, no its just a Jeep thing, at first I didn't believe him but then the next time a filled it at another gas station the same thing happened (full service as well) I then filled the tank myself the following time and it happened to me as well! naturally I don't fill my tank anymore! I have two young children and now I am hearing about all these recalls on suspension and gas tanks exploding it rear ended! I think it is time for Chrysler to step up and recall these death traps! I like my Jeep, the way it drives and the 4X4 feature but this is just to risky to keep these vehicles on the road, how many people need to get hurt or killed because they don't want to dish out the money for the recall. They probably wouldn't want their kids in a vehicle like that, so why should ours?!!
Gas spills out of the tank when you allow it to use out shut-off of the gas pump. We paid $1885.82 for a new gas tank. Now our 2nd 2006 Liberty is doing the same thing.
When fueling the Jeep, the Jeep overfills every time, every pump. I contacted Jeep but they refuse to help fix the problem. This is a major safety hazard to the person fueling the vehicle. The dealership has said it has to replace the fuel tank.
Since I haven received my Jeep Liberty renegade 2006 model. My husband and I have noticed that everytime we would fill up the gas tank. That lots of gas would pour out onto the car and the ground. We have done internet research and have found that lots of Jeep Liberty owners are having this same issue. There are videos and thousands of comments in regards to this issue. I have also contacted the epa, [xxx] and they are aware of the problem and had Chrysler issue a recall to fix this issue. However my vehicle year falls out of the recall dates listed. We I spoke with them they said to contact you guys because there is not as many of my vehicle years to expand the recall. I feel this is a huge safety issue and need help with trying to get a recall on my vehicle year. I have taken the vehicle to our local Chrysler dealer and they want to pay for a brand new gas tank at $500+ and I don't feel that because I own a 06 and not an 07 or 08 that I should have to pay for this defect. I contacted Chrysler main number and they told me that my vehicle is not involved in the recall. When it should be. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
I first bought the Jeep in 2008 (used). Everythine I went to fill the tank, about 1 cup of gas would spill out when it was full. I got used to this but now the service light pops on and the gascap waring appears in the odometer window. Spoke to my local mechanic who said that it would cost about $1200 to get it replaced at my own expense. The other isse is that I had to replace three (3) regulators for my rear windows (2 on the driver side and one on the passenger side) if there have been over 300+ complaints about this, why hasn't Chrysler recall the vehicle to take care of these problems.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that while parked, the rear driver's side window dropped into the door panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The mechanic stated that the window regulator would have to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. Additionally, while refueling the vehicle fuel spewed out of the filler neck. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

The gas tank overflows everytime it is filled. This happens at any gas station and every time it is left on autofill. The Jeep also emits a strong odor of gas regularly.
The 2006 Jeep Liberty spills fuel when filling at a gas station. The station pump shuts off and then a few cups of fuel overflows onto the side of the vehicle and the ground. If it is windy, you will get fuel everywhere. It doesn't matter what gas station you go to or how fast you fill up. Your only option is to stop the pump before the tank is full.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that whenever refueling the vehicle, the fuel shut off valve failed to operate and fuel would continuously overflow from the fuel tank. The fuel would spill onto the contact's clothing and then onto the ground. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who advised that the fuel tank would need to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the defect and informed the owner that they would be responsible for $400 of the repair expense and the remaining costs would be the manufacturer's responsibility. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 58,000.
Fuel tank overflows, per repair shop needs to be replaced due to faulty valve. Was told that this is same valve that prevent fuel spillage in the event of a rollover.
