Have been having a misfire in Cylinder 6 since last October. I have purged injectors twice, two new sets of plugs, new coil and have had dealer clean carbon from engine. When engine light came back on 3 days after the dealer did the carbon clean they told me I would have to take the heads off and sent out to be machined to clean carbon up. Not sure what to do. I have spent a few thousand dealing with this issue already and am debateting if I should get rid of it. Anyone have any ideas?
Everything has been OK since we bought this car new in 2006. Then in the summer of 2010 the MIL light went on. I got out my awesome high-end code reader ( EQUUS 3160 ), and found the P0306 code set ( Misfire on Cyl # 6 ). I replaced the air filter, fuel filter, all the spark plugs with Bosch Platinum + 2's, replaced the # 6 coil pack, and then cleared all the error codes. It worked perfectly, until Feb 27th, 2011.....then the error code P0306 has returned along with P0300 ( Random Misfire / Multi-cylinder misfire ), and the jeep is now running significantly rougher than it has been since the fix. So I'm going to replace the # 6 coil again, and replace all the plugs with their original NGK models. If that doesn't fix it, the only other things left are the ASD ( Auto Shutdown Relay - fires injectors and the coil packs ), or the PCM ( Powertrain control module ) which holds the car's VIN and Odometer readings. They are available aftermarket for around 130.00. I'll update this report when I have more information.
