The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Liberty sport. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle lost power, the transmission light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the torque converter was defective. A transmission specialist stated that the transmission fluid did not circulate through the seals. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The current and failure mileages were approximately 86,000.

2006 Jeep Liberty will not shift out of park intermittently. After several attempts of applying service brake it comes out so far. Dealership wants $600 bucks to replace shift lever tower and shift cable. Others on line talk about same problem. Dealerships plead ignorance on the problem, but will gladly take $600 to replace the shift lever tower and !

I have had my 2006 Jeep Liberty at the dealership 6 times in the 3 years I've owned it. I bought this car brand new and have had nothing but problems since. First the car would not come out of park, at the dealership they couldn't duplicate the problem and sent me on my way. After may months of this happening daily I had it towed on a flat bed to the dealership and they finally replaced a cable that connected the gear shift to brake after telling me I could just slam really hard on the brake and it would just disengage, I should just have done that instead of having it towed. (stupid me I guess) then I had the same ABS traction check engine light problems I've heard and read many complaints about, first time taking it in, the problems stopped and they sent me home. Second time, I drove it straight there and made them look at it and drive it, they had my car for four days and call me to tell me there was nothing they could do because the codes were stored and not active reset the computer and sent me on my way. Now yesterday a year later and at 48,000 miles the car started again. I made them hook it up while the car was still running and the lights still on. What they don't tell you is that shutting your car off "stores" the codes. With the car still on, the codes were active and they found the problem. The body control module. However now it is out of factory warranty and I had to fight with the GM to get it covered. They still wouldn't cover it under factory but did cover it under extended warranty and waived my deductible. However I am still very upset that this has not been recalled, this should not be at my expense at all!!! I will never buy another Jeep ever!

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Liberty. While the vehicle was parked in the driveway in first gear, it rolled backwards. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, but they could not determine the cause of the failure. Recently, the vehicle was parked in first gear and with the emergency brake engaged. The vehicle rolled away again and crashed into a tree. The vehicle was still able to be driven and sustained moderate damages. The police was called to the scene and a report was filed. The vehicle will be taken to a collision center for repairs. The VIN and failure mileage were unknown. The current mileage was 24,010.

Liberty 4WD 4-cyl Diesel

This is a new Liberty crd (diesel) with 610 miles that was accelerating from a border patrol checkpoint on I-8 East of san diego. While accelerating to ~65 the vehicle suddenly lost power in heavy freeway traffic and slowed to 35 mph even though the engine was running good. This sudden loss of power caused overtaking vehicles to swerve violently to avoid an accident including at least 2 panic stops. When the vehicle was safely on the shoulder (engine was idling fine) the car was shutdown and restarted which apparently recycled the computer and cleared the condition. Vehicle has performed fine since that incident.

I am currently leasing a 2006 Jeep Liberty. I am able to turn off the vehicle and remove the key while still in 'drive'. I did this once and the vehicle began to roll away when I stepped out of the car. I was able to get back in the car and stop it. No accident/no injuries.
