When I shift from 1st to 2nd or 3rd sometimes I hear a grinding noise. I brought it to my mechanic today, and he told me he thinks it's a ball inside my transmission that spins and is covered with nylon, as well there are some types of forks in it as well. He thinks that the nylon on the ball is wearing down by the forks turning it. He is going to try changing the transmission oil to a synthetic type to see if that helps. If not he said about the only thing they can do is change my transmission, which is going to be a costly job.
He also stated that this is a common problem with a Jeep. So my question is, whey hasn't this problem been recalled and/or eliminated?
I usually buy second hand, and it's usually a Toyota or Subaru for their longevity. This time though I bought the Jeep Liberty second hand because I always thought that Jeep was a great brand, and stood behind their name, but after this experience, not only will I not recommend a Jeep, but I will be going back to a Toyota or Subaru on my next buy.
