Came out of work the other day and noticed that the roof above my windshield, and in front of my sunroof, appeared oddly warped, almost as if a smallish boulder had fallen on it (though this Jeep spent most of its life in California, I've been living in Florida for the last year - no boulders falling from the sky recently). Also, there's noticeable bubbling and rust issues beginning near the warped spot and the paint on the hood also now looks matte and feels rough.
I bought my Liberty new in 2004 and have taken better-than-average care of it, wax, etc., and it's rewarded me with an unbelievable number of annoying problems, including the ubiquitous "windows falling into doors" problem common to Libertys from this era, transmission seal issues, an odd battery-eating month or two (never figured it out, it finally just stopped - and it was not the batteries themselves), a "hot start" issue in which if you drive it for 30 minutes+, then stop for groceries or something for 10 minutes and get back in, it won't start (also not sorted out, mechanic is still trying to figure it out as it still happens occasionally), and now this.
I know the Florida sun is rough, but I've kept the car waxed and it's parked in a covered area -- and it's a Jeep, right? Rugged, etc.? If I had it to do over again, I'm sad to say I wouldn't purchase the Liberty. First car I bought new and, compared to a VW we own and an Acura I used to own, the Jeep has been highly problematic. Despite basically running OK, now it's also starting to look like a junker. Depressing.
