2002 Jeep Liberty speed sensor failure causes speedometer to stop working, engine to die while driving, loss of powersteering, loss of brakes, steering wheel locks up.
: the contact stated the speedometer failed three times. The first time the speedometer failed due to a rusted sensor. The second time, the speedometer failed due to an ABS sensor. The third time the vehicle had not been to a service dealer to determine the problem.
The speedometer quit and the engine shut down. This happened while driving. The consumer has taken vehicle to the dealer multiple times for this problem. They have replaced the rear out put sensor at least ten times. The most recent time this occurred was on 8-8-05. The problem occurred at a variety of speeds. There are no other known problems with the vehicle at this time. During the last repair the dealer replaced the rear wheel speed sensor in the wiring harness.
Major electrical problems....dash went dead, wipers dead, power door locks dead, tail gate latch released, no headlights, no speedometer, all shut off while driving in the rain at night at 65 mph.

Dealer replaced the front tires twice, and vehicle vibrated while driving at any speed. Also, headlights/ horn/windshield wipers, and the speedometer failed while driving the vehicle.
While driving, the vehicle suddenly accelerated. The driver was unable to maintain control of the vehicle. This caused the driver to hit another vehicle on the drivers side. None of the air bags deployed. The driver was not hurt. The driver had the vehicle towed to the dealer for analysis. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the problem.
The vehicle accelerated foward and collided with another vehicle, also the seat belt failed to restrain the consumer properly and was subsequently injured.
Jeep motor starts racing high RPM when tring to stop, rear wheels starts spinning in reverse when slowing down or tring to put into park took to dealer three times dealer can't duplicate problem. Dealer has called Chrysler to times to report problem. I have called Chrysler two times to report problem, no solution at this time.
When coming to a stop applied brakes and engine will rev, and tires spin. Vehicle was moving forward, consumer has to shut off engine to stop vehicle. This has happened 3 times. Vehicle was taken to dealer twice, could not duplicate the problem.
Consumer was slowing vehicle down while going 25mph, and 30-40 feet before it almost came at a stand still, engine revved and vehicle was trying to go forward. Rear wheels were still spinning, and only way to stop vehicle from going forward was to put it in neutral. Dealer held vehicle for 2 days, and couldn't find anything wrong with it.
