Glass sunroof panel shattered while driving on empty highway at 60 MPH. No explainable cause, e.g. no driving range nearby. The sunroof was rarely opened and was closed during the incident. There was no prior indication of failure. Noise resembled a LOUD bang. Shade prevented glass from raining down onto occupants. The noise was sudden and startled driver. Since road was empty, the incident did not cause the driver to loose control. No car behind, when chunks of glass blew off. After driving 15 miles, examination showed about 1/3 of the glass was missing. The much of the remaining glass was removed to reduce occupant risk. Shattered glass was vacuumed and can be examined but not as a pane. Next car will be driven to dealer. And possibly to insurance agent.
While driving going about 40mph, I pressed cruise control to 75. Once my car picked up speed, no other cars around, no overpass, etc. my moon roof exploded out of no where. My 8 month old was in the backseat right under where it busted.
