We bought my new 2016 Jeep Cherokee Limited on Memorial Day of this year. We went on our first trip to Nashville, TN on Thanksgiving Day and while on the way we used the cruise control. Everything was working fine as we had the cruise control set on between 73-76 mph but when traffic slowed down due to construction it dropped the speed to 55-60 mph and then we went back up to normal speed. We noticed immediately that the steering was really stiff and that you had to use both hands just to try and keep it on the road. It would jerk to the right when you would go around any slight curve. But if you would come to a complete stop it would somehow reset and then the steering was fine again. It was very dangerous to go on a trip that is over 500 miles one way and try to use cruise control and this would keep happening if you had to lower your speed limit to 55-60 or below. You can't just stop on the side of the highway to come to a stop for it to reset itself. I called the dealer this morning and I'm taking it in later this week to be tested. This could cause an accident if you are not prepared for this. I bought this vehicle for trips and my husband said he will never drive my jeep again until this is fixed. I don't know if it is something to do with the cruise control or steering but I think something is wrong with the electronic steering. I will update after I find out what the dealer tells me.
Update from Dec 27, 2016: As of today December 27, 2016, Dealership still has my vehicle. It has been in the shop since December 2, 2016. The service department techs have got it to duplicate what I said but has no solution yet.
Update from Jan 23, 2017: On January 21, 2017 our dealership got Chrysler to buy back this vehicle. It had been at the dealership since Dec. 2, 2016 and they could not determine if it was the hydraulic lift or electronic steering. I got a 2017 Grand Cherokee Limited without either the hydraulic lift or the electronic steering. Without the help from my dealership I would still be getting the run around from Chrysler. Looking forward to diving my new Jeep.
