seat belt not retracting

My passenger side seatbelt will not retract. Fortunately, I found this site and saw all of the same issues listed. I found that I also have a crack in the top “D” ring that the belt slides through. After contacting Mopar for the part, they told me to contact my dealer. I was told by the dealer that this was not a recall. I asked if I could purchase the part (not even have it installed) and the part alone was $507!

I think this is a huge safety issue. I wrote up a report to the National Transportation and Safety Board. Nothing will change unless everyone with this problem, reports it.

Anyway, I am going to attempt to fix it. I have seen some suggestions online.

There should be no way a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee should have a broken drivers side retractor for the seat belt! It is such a safety issue!! Apparently, there was a recall for this for 2014 and 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokees but it was not extended past 2019. Pretty bad when a safety concern is not extended. I called Chrysler and they said I couldn’t make a complaint because, “there was no recall for it, so no complaint can be made.” That’s when I found this site and hope they formally get this complaint. Shame on Chrysler!

Grand Cherokee Limited 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission

This is a common problem from my research and is a safety problem. This needs to be covered under warranty. My vehicle only has 45,000 miles and the issue is on the passenger side (limited use!)

It’s very annoying. A couple of websites said to wash off the seatbelt to get dirt & grime off of, but that did not help & was a waste of time! This happened on the passenger side.

As many others have reported, seatbelt having trouble retracting. Took panels off and retractor at the bottom works just fine. Traced problem to top where seatbelt winds over a small bar before extending to the lap. I have washed the seatbelt and did not improve the issue. Tried to lubricate the bar and did not improve. This needs to be looked into.
