Active headrest collision system randomly deployed while I was driving. Appears to have some kind of retaining mechanism failure as I cannot clip it back in. Many others appear to have had this issue as reported across internet forums and still no recall.

Airbag light came on at 106,000 mi. Was told it was an issues with the wiring in the head restraint. Would need to have head rest replaced for $700. I don't believe there is any reason this should have failed as the car has never been in an accident

The headrest of the drivers seat deployed while I was driving. I was driving on a highway with cruise control and and the vehicle was at a steady speed with no sudden jolts or stops. I heard a very loud pop and the headrest hit me in the back of the head. The incident startled me and caused me to hit my breaks.

The 'service airbag system' display and airbag light comes on and off. I had it repaired but the dealer said it's not covered under the 'safety warranty'. I think it should be.

Jeep Grand Cherokee overland has never been involved in any accidents was parked in my driveway. It had not been setting for more than 6 hours since last driven. I opened the front passenger side door and the passenger side head rest activated. Needless to say this scared the heck out of me, but luckily I was not harmed. Upon inspection it looks as though the plastic retainers which hold the unit in somehow broke allowing the headrest to activate.. I am not an engineer, but this is clearly a problem due to faulty engineering or manufacturing. After some time searching on the internet I found tons of other Jeep owners who have experienced the same issue. Clearly Jeep is aware of this issue, but as of yet has been ignoring the problem. If this had happened to the drivers side head rest while I was driving it could have caused a serious or possibly deadly accident

Takata recall while driving my car doing 20 mph in normal driving conditions my passenger side headrest malfunctioned and deployed hitting the passenger in the back of the head. The headrest deployed and exploded with a lot of force. It was a very scary situation. I had no idea that the headrests were capable of that. Upon further investigation I saw that the plastic 'clips' that keep the headrest from going off had been completely shattered and broken making the headrest unfixable. When I called the Jeep dealership they told me if the 'clips' were broken that the headrest needed to be replaced. I am shocked that a 'safety feature ' malfunctioning is a problem that I need to pay to fix. (about $680 for a replacement plus labor cost) this could have resulted in a serious crash and injuries. This style headrest needs to banned. Also other Jeep owners need to be aware of this. It's very unsafe and Jeep needs to replace the headrest with a completely different safer headrest. I fear now that when I'm driving that the driver side headrest could malfunction and explode at the back of my head resulting in serious injuries. Ive talked to other Jeep owners with the same style vehicle and none of them were aware of this 'safety feature' with the headrest. And not one single mention in the owners manual about this deploying headrest. People need to be aware!!

Sunroof has failed 6 times and is now ready for it's 7th repair. The sunroof's automatic functions stop working so when it fails you have to push the close button repeatedly while the sunroof moves maybe 1/4" on each depression of the button. The dealer replaced the motor once and for the other 4 times I was told it needed to be calibrated. The last sunroof failure they went in and went through all of the electrical connectors and said they found some electrical wiring problems and fixed them. The sunroof failed again 2 weeks later. The airbag warning light, due to another electrical connector issue. The electronics in the vehicle malfunctions regularly which affect the radio controls, navigation, central locking, phone, and I get random erroneous errors on the dash display. The radio/navigation units have been replaced. The navigation screen locks up but the voice will continue to give you verbal instructions. If you manually lock the vehicle and start walking away the horn will beep twice and the vehicle will unlock like the keys have been locked in the car, even though they are in your hand. I was told you cannot use the lock buttons on your door to lock the vehicle. When you walk up to the car and grab the door handle to unlock the car it fails, and you have to grab the door handle all over repeatedly to get it to unlock. The dash display will give false messages while driving like already in desired gear and no one has touched the shifter. The voice will come on randomly and ask you what number you want to call, again no buttons nor the display have been touched. Error on display memory system, the programmed seat switches were replaced. Transmission issue, the module was replaced. Rear hatch failure, finally switch was replaced. Rear tail light lens replaced as it was full of water. Check engine light, faulty oil pressure switch. Engine vibration, bad ac comp.

I was driving at about 10 mph and the front passenger headrest deployed hitting my fianc in the the back of his head. It appear the plastic latch broke on the inside of the mechanisms. This is an extreme saftely issue as I swerved due to the extremely loud noise. Upon searching on google it appears this is a major issue with the Jeep's Grand Cherokee for those year. This needs to be recalled before someone is injured. If I was on the freeway and it happened to the driver side seat then this could have resulted into a major accident

I was coming to a gradual stop at a traffic light on a local road when the active head restraint seemingly deployed. I was not in a collision and there was no reason for it to deploy. Upon examining the mechanism it was not triggered, rather it failed because the plastic clips that held onto the latch had broken off internally causing the headrest to hit me violently in the back of the head. This could have been far worse had I not been almost at a complete stop.

Driver's headrest airbag deployed when we were not in the car, and the car has not been in an accident. Chrysler was contacted and did a private investigation which led them to believe that the incident was not due to manufacturing responsibility. This incident happened some time in early April - we noticed it around April 14th. I have contacted them 6 times since then and they refuse to explain why the airbag deployed, or offer assistance in repairing it.
