CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2014 (and 2015) Jeep Grand Cherokee have a serious defect trend of transmission complaints. Most of the complaints are for rough shifting — things like jerking & hesitation when shifting gears.
Second time fuel filters have been replaced 6/16 & 5/18. Fuel Emission Sensor replaced once 5/18. Cat Converters replaced at 25K. Emissions Sensor malfunction now intermittent 8/18. Perhaps now the wiring harness?
Engine light going on and off. First told to gun engine on I-95 ramps to clear particulates from filter. No help. Now second visit told wiring harness bad and needs replacement to prevent damage to catalytic converter. Told only 3 new harnesses available so ordered one quickly from Orlando and they will do repair tomorrow. Great service people. Just not what I need having just retired!
Update from Apr 15, 2017: Cost $600+ to replace exhaust sensor and wiring harness. Mechanic said the wiring harness failed and it and the sensor are one unit. Other wiring harnesses have failed on gas models causing engine fires. I think Jeep should cover this repair but they do not.
Update from May 29, 2020: Engine light back on. Left message with dealer. No response. No overheating, running well. Will monitor.
My selling dealer said it would be 3 weeks before they could get the car in to look at the issue. Another dealer got the car in. Claimed it was a Rodent Problem in the wiring (this is a new car parked in an attached garage of a new home with no rodent problems). They Repaired the Problem; they said, and when I picked up the car the Check Engine Light was off. The Check Engine Light came back on in under 100 miles. Same P24C6 code.
ALSO: I inspected the wiring harness. It's a simple 2 wire assembly to the sensor. The conductors are PTFE insulated and they are covered with a medium temperature foil insulating sleeve.
P.S. I'm a wire and cable design engineer to the auto industry.
P.S.S. The dealer told me there are 151 of these sensors on Back-Order from Chrysler and it could be weeks before the issue is corrected. I believe it's a sensor problem and not a rodent problem.
