I got on this site to look and see if anyone had problems with their oil pump failing on their Jeep... from the looks of it, I guess I'm glad this is the only problem we've had with the car so far!
About a week ago, my wife was driving home and out of no where the check engine light came on and the oil pressure gauge pops up showing 0 PSI!!! She called me right away while I was at work and I told her to pull over immediately and shut the car off... I'd be there in a few minutes. I get there, and first check the oil level. that is fine. Next I ask her to start the car while I listen.. right away I could hear that the engine was not getting oil (head it start to chatter) so I told her to shut it off right away.. get it towed to the only Jeep dealer we have in town.
They told me it was probably just the sensor but I told them that I could tell by the change in sound of the engine running that it was not pumping oil... after having the car for 5 days, they finally call me and say that it is the oil pump and it's a $1600 repair.. For those of you that don't know, in order to get to the oil pump, you must remove the oil pan. In order to do that, you must remove the engine carriage/crossmember.. very tedious project. Anyways, they are working on that now so we'll see how it goes. Obviously, not something you would ever expect to fail on a 2014 vehicle. hell, oil pumps are known to last 40-50 years on cars without any failures.
Anyways, after reading through everyone else's struggles with engine/transmission issues, I think it's time for us to get this fixed and trade it in before those problems start happening to us!!
