CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2014 (and 2015) Jeep Grand Cherokee have a serious defect trend of transmission complaints. Most of the complaints are for rough shifting — things like jerking & hesitation when shifting gears.
2014 Grand Cherokee, 3.6L Pentastar engine with 80K miles developed a tick. took car into garage and mechanic recommended replacing the lifters and rocker arms. Mentioned the longer you wait, the more damage it will cause and the more it will cost. Estimate to do the work is $3,500,
Called Jeep, Customer care and said there was no warranty coverage. Have to pay out of pocket. Vehicle has been well cared for with regular oil changes and maintenance. Pretty sad when manufacturers don't back the products that they make and are not concerned with doing the right thing.
Dealer describes the engine ticking sounds as normal
Months later valve train failure
Warranty covers repair that takes a month and i get stuck with over $1000 in rental car bills.
Repair involved engine removal and replacing tappets, lifters and the cam shaft (service says some of these engines had "soft cams".. oh f'n great!!! good job Chrysler!
This issue was compounding as smaller problems lead to the complete engine failure, e.g., oil leaks from various locations, oil filter housing unit, radiator.
Went to the dealer dropped it off didn't get it back for 4 days if I remember correctly. Recently went to the dealer and saw a friend of mine there same car same exact problem his car has 30k. terrible quality this should be recalled.
