CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2014 (and 2015) Jeep Grand Cherokee have a serious defect trend of transmission complaints. Most of the complaints are for rough shifting — things like jerking & hesitation when shifting gears.

I was driving around 65 mph on a highway when the active headrest popped out forcefully, hitting me in the back of the head. It was enough to cause me to veer into a neighboring lane, but fortunately I regained control of the vehicle. There are so many reports of this happening to other drivers, and it is only a matter of time until it causes an accident. To be clear, I did not hit a pothole or anything on the road'the headrest just popped out for no apparent reason. I inspected the headrest later and found that the pin that holds the headrest in place had snapped in half. This happened last year on a 2014 model Jeep Grand Cherokee.
While driving straight on the highway, the driver's seat headrest active headrest deployed. There was no collision, no obvious reason for the headrest to deploy. It appears that a plastic piece has broken. I can move the headrest back into place, but it does not lock back in place.
I had just parked my Jeep and reached in the back seat to grab something when my headrest popped open and smacked me in the side of my head. Didnt feel great and I cant get it close back up. Heard other people have had this problem, hopefully they recall this soon. Love my Jeep.
The headrest on my frontpassanger seat deployed while the car was parked. My husband and I were getting out to go into a restaraunt and it popped forward/open

I was driving on a city street on christmas eve at 35 mph and the driver side headrest deployed and struck me in the back of the head. We were not involved in an accident, but I was in significant pain for a couple days.
Unlocked Jeep to discover the passenger headrest had deployed. Looked closer at the mechanism to discover the plastic structure, retaining the "floating"pin that holds the headrest in place, was completely cracked allowing the headrest to move to its most forward "deployed"position. The Jeep was stationary on a city street parked overnight, no collision occurred, and there were no occupants at the time of malfunction.
The passenger side headrest has deployed on its own and is broken. It is unable to be reset. I can provide pictures if wanted or needed. Please feel free to contact at [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
While car was traveling at approx 45mph on interstate, without any interruption to an otherwise smooth ride, both headrests deployed the crash-release mechanism and sprung out to drill my wife (driver) and I in the back of the head with heavy force. My first thought was that we had been rear ended. We were lucky to pull over, and gather ourselves before proceeding (with a headache).
Inadvertent deployment of "active headrest" on driver's seat with no accident. Headrest spontaneously burst open. Vehicle was stationary and gear shifter was in park in my driveway with the engine running.
Active headrest on drive side seat has deployed for no apparent reason. Luckily I was not in the seat when the headrest deployed. When going to reset it, plastic tabs restraining it snapped and headrest is unable to be reset.
The driver's seat active head rest deployed for no reason. The vehicle was parked and there was not impact of any kind. Fortunately I way not driving the vehicle at the time or the impact of the deployment could have resulted in neck injury, or the shock of the deployment could have been distracting enough to result in an unsafe movement.
The headrest "deployed" on me while driving, bopping me in the head. I don't know how or what to get that fixed under. The vehicle was in regular low speed motion pulling through a parking lot. I believe there is a design flaw in the headrest that caused clips to break and therefore hit me in the head. I believe this may be a huge safety risk for those who don't lean as far as I do or even use the headrest. Also I was moving at less than 5 miles per hour, this could be a huge safety issue if someone was moving at a much faster velocity. I also don't know how this device works or if its like an airbag, am I at risk if it re-deploys in the actual case of an accident?
While I was driving my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee the head rest burst open while driving. I was doing 55 mph on the highway in North Carolina when this happened and there was no accident. The head rest jarred my surgically repaired neck and I was stiff the next day but did not seek medical attention. I have not taken to dealership for repair yet as I am traveling.
While driving down the highway at approximately 55mph, my passenger seat headrest deployed. No one was sitting in the seat and there was no collision or impact at the time of deployment. See attached photos. This issue has been discussed many times on the jeepcares forum, yet no voluntary recall has been issued by Chrysler. I'm filing this formal complaint and will be contacting Chrysler to cover replacement cost.
