CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012 Grand Cherokee hasn't seen the same complaint volume as the 2011, at least not yet.

It's worth noting both model years are part of a class-action lawsuit that focuses on a defective TIPM and a long wait for replacement parts.

The 2012 also received national attention after it failed a Swedish Magazine's "moose test". The test measures a vehicle's ability to swerve out of the way of an obstacle you wouldn't want to hit while driving down the road ... like a moose.

Has anyone had any issues with the lug nuts coming loose on a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude? This has happened on two occasions when I’m driving the car and I hear a noise. Both times the lug nuts including the locking lug nut was loose. The mechanic torqued the lug nuts properly and after approximately 3-4 days they become loose. I purchased this vehicle brand new.

Grand Cherokee Overland Summit 5.7L V8 Hemi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 136,000 miles

Recently had a new set of tires put on car and aligned. Everything was good even the Tech came out and checked the torque on the nuts. Traveled out of town about three week after (284 Miles) Started to feel a vibration near the end of my trip. Pulled over and walked around car and discovered the rear drivers side wheel was coming off. Wheel nuts were loose two were missing with broken studs. The major issue is that while driving at 65 MPH. You barely notice but when the load on the axle is gone the wheel vibrates so bad you think it is going to fall off. NOTE This is the second incident.

Grand Cherokee Overland Summit 5.7L V8 Hemi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 80,000 miles

Had tires rotated, I actually watched that the Tires were torqued to the right amount of 110 Lbs. Drove about two weeks and was crossing the mountain when the vibration was really bad. Got out and looked at the driver side rear wheel and one stud had broken off with the four remaining lug nuts just about to fall off.

Dealer replaced stud and got another wheel nut.
