CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012 Grand Cherokee hasn't seen the same complaint volume as the 2011, at least not yet.
It's worth noting both model years are part of a class-action lawsuit that focuses on a defective TIPM and a long wait for replacement parts.
The 2012 also received national attention after it failed a Swedish Magazine's "moose test". The test measures a vehicle's ability to swerve out of the way of an obstacle you wouldn't want to hit while driving down the road ... like a moose.
I just bought a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee in Jan and drove it to CO. I notice the engine light was on but, being unfamiliar the Jeep and not having a users manual in the car, thought it was indicating the engine was on. I call the dealership about the manual and was told the light means engine problems. I took the car to a dealer who told me the light was due to a computer update issue. They fixed it and two days later, the light came back on. After taking it back to the dealer, they told me I needed a new catalytic converter!!! This is a brand new car!!! I tried to have them take it back and replace it the other vehicle. They apologize several times but, said no. I asked to speak to someone in charge but, I was hung up on. I trusted that Jeep would do the right thing since the car was new and they have plenty in stock. Don't think I will buy another Jeep now. I was surprised to hear someone else had the same problem, weeks after their purchase too. This must be an ongoing issue. Beware!!!
