CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012 Grand Cherokee hasn't seen the same complaint volume as the 2011, at least not yet.
It's worth noting both model years are part of a class-action lawsuit that focuses on a defective TIPM and a long wait for replacement parts.
The 2012 also received national attention after it failed a Swedish Magazine's "moose test". The test measures a vehicle's ability to swerve out of the way of an obstacle you wouldn't want to hit while driving down the road ... like a moose.

My 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo is fully loaded and in like new condition. I'm the second owner of this vehicle and absolutely was in love with it. That was until what happened recently.
I was taking my son to school and the check engine light came on. I was surprised as I'm pretty meticulous about maintaining my vehicles as I drive a lot of highway miles for work. I dropped my son off and drove straight to the local Chrysler dealer. They said the issue was low oil pressure so we spent around $900.00 on the repair. The next day the engine light came on again and I returned to the dealer. They did some diagnostics and said they weren't sure what the problem was as the diagnostic showed a different code for the same problem they had just repaired. They said to let them contact Chrysler to see what they recommended.
I didn't hear anything for weeks then I followed up again and was told that Chrysler had some recommendations but couldn't guarantee they would solve the problem. I decided to get a second opinion and took it to another Chrysler dealer in town and was told the same thing. The second dealer said they recommended two things to try but that each cost about $4,000.00. But even after that they still couldn't guarantee that either will fix the problem!
I checked Kijiji autos and this vehicle in working condition is selling at around $8,500.00 but the way it is I can't sell it. I decided I'd call Chrysler Canada and see what they'd be willing to do to help. I just got off the phone with them and was told there is nothing they are willing to do. This is unbelievable from a vehicle manufacturer! I hope these guys go under. No more bail outs and I'm never buying another Chrysler vehicle as long as I live and will warn other whenever possible!
At this point I'm not willing to spend $8,000.00 on a $8,500.00 vehicle with no guarantee of it working, so unfortunately I'll be donating it to one of the charities. I can't put into words all the emotions I'm feeling from anger and frustration from the financial hit my family has to take when things are already crappy due to COVID, to the sense of loss and waste of such a beautiful vehicle that I no longer will get any use out of. Such a shame that companies can pull this kind of crap on people.
