CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012 Grand Cherokee hasn't seen the same complaint volume as the 2011, at least not yet.

It's worth noting both model years are part of a class-action lawsuit that focuses on a defective TIPM and a long wait for replacement parts.

The 2012 also received national attention after it failed a Swedish Magazine's "moose test". The test measures a vehicle's ability to swerve out of the way of an obstacle you wouldn't want to hit while driving down the road ... like a moose.

The driver's seat headrest active head restraint deployed open while I was putting items into the back seat from the passenger side. The car was stationary, but running, but hadn't been jarred or hit to provoke the deployment. The plastic tabs on the inside are broken, and I'm not able to reset the headrest into position, and essentially have to hold it in place with my head while I drive (not the most desireable way to drive). I went to Jeep to see what it would cost to repair (or replace) and I was told that they no longer manufacture, nor carry the part...... they no longer manufacture nor carry a part for an 8 year old car? I find that very suspicious. I'd like to know if there is something that can be done about this. The front passenger seat headrest has not deployed (yet), but I hope it doesn't deploy inadvertently while someone is sitting in the seat.

Upon pulling out of a parking spot, the front passenger seat headrest safety mechanism activated, propelling the headrest forward, for no foreseen reason. The vehicle was not and has never been in an accident. Upon inspection, it seems that a plastic part within the headrest cracked, thus causing the safety mechanism to fail and deploy on its own.

Alternator failed due to recall. I was not notified of this until after having failed and needing to be towed after being stranded on the side of the road in the middle of the night. All the cars functions had completely failed. The car was unable to be moved to a safe place, doors were locked, leaving my dogs locked and gated into the cargo area until lowing assistance arrived. Since the alternator was fixed I have had multiple visits to the dealership for replacement of battery, Jeep failing two more times while driving down the road, needing additional towing assistance. Multiple electrical malfunctions continue to occur, including: Forward collision warning, "brake warning flashing for no apparent reason. The passenger side heat failed needing to be replaced. All of the seat heaters within the vehicle have failed needing to be replaced. Most recently the drivers seat move forward function has stopped working, make the vehicle difficult and unsafe to drive as it is not at the appropriate drive distance. Contact to dealer to discuss fixing issues as they are electrical and most likely due to recall of the alternator. Jeep dealer declined that it was a related issue and that Jeep are known for these issues. Car is felt to be unreliable and unsafe to continue to drive at this point with the unknown reasons and causes for the recurrent malfunctions.

I have 4 recurring problems with my Jeep. First, the driver's heated seats periodically will not work. Second, upon starting my car, it will just stall or shut down. This happens 2 to 3 times a week. Third, the check engine light continuously comes on and off (and when I get it checked, I am told something about the thermostat, but have had no problems with it overheating). Finally, the cruise control on/off button will not work sometimes. I have to physically hit the steering wheel for it to work. I have read about tons of recalls for my year Jeep, but my VIN number is not included. I am starting to think it should be.
