CarComplaints.com Notes: The fourth generation Grand Cherokee took the relatively trouble-free run of the 3rd-generation and flipped the script.

From 2010 to 2011, complaints about the vehicle not starting increased 10-fold. In fact, the 2011 model year is riddled with engine problems and a defective TIPM might be to blame. The TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) distributes power to all the eletrical components in the vehicle, so when it starts acting funny so do numerous other components in the car. Orders for new TIPMs were so abundant that parts became scarce, prompting a class-action lawsuit claiming Chrysler ignored this obvious defect.

By 2012 complaints dropped back down by about 80%. Needless to say, if you see a used 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee on a lot just keep walking.

My 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland V8 hemi stalls while slowing down to turn onto another road, or going from highway speeds to exiting a ramp. It's been occurring for several years. I've already had the fuel pump relay recall fixed twice, and my Jeep still stalls out almost on a daily basis. It turns out Chrysler issued a recall (T36) for 2012-2014 Jeep with alternator issues; however the information I have read on the recall sounds a lot like what is happening to my Jeep. 2011 Jeep gc overland should be included in this recall.

Takata recall I just purchased my Jeep back in June and can view the service history. This complaint in particular has to do with extended crank. My Jeep takes awhile to start. I see that there was a fuel pump relay recall. I see in my service history that my Jeep had this part replaced: 02/02/2015 78,423 mi at jt's Chrysler Jeep Dodge Fiat. Again, according to the symptom/conditions, I am still experiencing the same issue, and would like this fixed as soon as possible because of safety concerns. I am experiencing or have a symptom/condition of a clunk and/or bump felt through the steering wheel under moderate braking or driving over rough roads (19-003-14) part to fix known issue is (ar) 05057539ad shaft, steering column intermediate. I would like this fixed as soon as possible because of safety concerns. I am experiencing a symptom/condition of a powertrain issue. When accelerating, I feel the transmission slipping and the engine makes very noisy and abrupt vibrations. All lubricant is new. I would like this fixed as soon as possible because of safety concerns. My window washing feature does not spew fluid onto front windows, however, will spew liquid on rear window. I would like this fixed as soon as possible because of safety concerns.

On multiple occasions, our 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland 5.7L engine stalls while braking and trying to turn corners. Recall P54 to replace fuel pump relay to correct this issue was done in November 2015, but the issue has continued. Most recently occurred Sept 8th, 11th and now today the 14th. Had vehicle in for diagnostics on Sept 13th and Jeep technicians were unable to find the problem. When this stalling occurs, there are no warning lights and apparently no fault codes generated. When motor stalls, we lose power steering and brakes and have ended up on the wrong side of road trying to get stopped. This usually happens when decelerating and braking to turn off or onto a highway.

Timp recall, was repaired Jan 2015. Today vehicle stalled in traffic, completely shut down and lost power steering, while making a left hand turn. I am lucky I was not in an accident. I was able to restart the vehicle. I have made an appointment with the dealer, but since it was repaired previously, not sure what they will do for me. Obviously there is still a problem the recall did not repair.

On May 4, 2017, approximately around 7:00pm, I turned right onto a freeway and my steering wheel locked up and the vehicle shut off completely. I was not able to turn the steering wheel and barely was able to make it out of the middle of the road. The engine shut off while driving down the road. I am luck that I did not have a car behind me or I would have caused an accident. How scary!! Chrysler has claimed that they have fixed this!!

When driving the engine will turn off with no warning. Since December until now, it has done this a total of 6 times. 3 of the times either merging onto the freeway or getting off of the freeway. Scares me so much. I have been lucky enough to not have anyone crash from the behind. My steering wheel locks, and the brakes become very hard to push down on. Its hard to move out of the way of traffic.

Grand Cherokee

  • 57,000 miles
The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee will experience engine stall while the vehicle is in motion, at times in excess of 30 mph. This causes a loss of power steering and power brake functions. It has likewise stalled at stop lights/signals which is equally dangerous when vehicles are approaching from behind at high speeds expecting the vehicle in front to move with the green light. Chrysler issued a recall (P54) related to these issues, however the cheap external fuel pump relay wiring harness fix they employed to remedy the problems can be characterized as insufficient at best. In fact, the issues with our family vehicle have actually worsened since the P54 recall was performed in may of 2015. The vehicle's problems have now progressed to the point where the vehicle will not start: A typical symptom of these dangerous Jeep/Chrysler products. There are literally hundreds of consumer complaints outlining similar issues I.e., the vehicles being difficult to start or not starting at all, vehicles' power windows not operating properly, door locks opening and locking on their own, horn blaring, the vehicle not recognizing the fob, electronic fuel pumps remaining on after the vehicle is shut off and stalling while the vehicle is in motion. A common theme related to all of these issues seems to be the power distribution center for the vehicles or the tipm (total integrated power module). It seems Fiat - Chrysler has been aware of the problems with their oem manufactured tipm parts for some time, since 2007, but took the woefully inadequate route of correcting only a small and less dangerous issue of the manufacturers defect. Hence their court ordered P54 external fuel pump wiring harness, which on a good day will correct the fuel pump run-on. What needs to be addressed is the stalling while in motion issues associated with these vehicles. Please mandate a safety recall.

Was slowing down from 50 mph to make a left hand turn. As I was entering the turn, at about 30 mph, the engine shut off. All dash lights still functional, radio was still on, turn signal still on. There was no sputtering. Lost power steering and power braking (and any other items that are not functional while in "run" mode). Shifted to "neutral", but it would not start because the transmission was not in "park". pulled to the side and stopped the vehicle, put it in "park". started like nothing had happened. There were no warning lights before shutdown, there are no service lights or obd II codes stored in computer. Was using the push button starter, the key fob was in my pocket.

The Jeep has only 43,880 miles when I went to the Jeep dealer for an oil change. I was told the power steering rack was leaking. The repair would cost $1602 plus tax. This Jeep has not been driven off road and should not be leaking with this low mileage. There appears to be many complaints of owners with the same problem. It appears there is a fault with the part.

This is the sixth time, today, 9/13/15. I haven't been killed yet, but it's a future possibility. My Jeep loses power and will not steer. It happened with my mom and my only child in the Jeep. Chrysler tells me every time to take it to the local dealer, quirk Jeep in marshfield, MA. I do. They run the ever popular 'diagnostics' and find nothing wrong with it. Yet, it keeps happening! the last time it happened, I was on the highway during rush hour traffic. State police would not allow me to wait for aaa so I had to pay out of pocket $120 to be towed off the road by some neanderthal in a tow truck. What can I do before I am killed by this vehicle? last time it happened was in early August of this year. I contacted Jeep with this email and was told to take it in to the dealer for 'diagnostics.' I did and they found no problem again! my Jeep is again losing speed and power steering. It is random. I am driving along and it loses acceleration and power steering. I am terrified to drive on the highway expect in the far right lane at minimal speeds. This is a problem because I am a travelling salesperson and must be on the road all day, five days a week. I travel up to 200 miles a day. As I indicated back in December, this is my fifth Jeep. Quirk says all the recalls on my vehicle have been done and their diagnostics can find no reason for the loss of power. However, it is happening and it is extremely dangerous. Originally, when this first started happening, shortly after I bought this pre-owned Jeep, I was told the tipm recall would correct these problems. Obviously, it has not. Addition, I have random issues with my key not working or my car refusing to turn on. I am a single mom who has to work. I do not have the financial ability to buy a new vehicle and junk this Jeep. I need this vehicle to work as it is supposed to work.

My 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee began stalling while driving in December 2014. These occurrences have been documented by the dealership four times. It has always stalled while driving at speeds higher than 50 mph. It has stalled on the freeway 2 times and I have been spared a serious traffic collision due to light traffic conditions. The vehicle never throws a code when it stalls. There is nothing the service department can do for these "phantom" occurrences. The tipm has been replaced since that can sometimes be the issue. However, the stalling continues. I have researched this stalling issue and there are others with the similar problem. What will it take before Chrysler addresses this life threatening problem? currently, my vehicle is back at the dealership for this problem. I am not looking forward to picking up my vehicle since the problem is always looming like a black cloud over my head.
