CarComplaints.com Notes: The fourth generation Grand Cherokee took the relatively trouble-free run of the 3rd-generation and flipped the script.

From 2010 to 2011, complaints about the vehicle not starting increased 10-fold. In fact, the 2011 model year is riddled with engine problems and a defective TIPM might be to blame. The TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) distributes power to all the eletrical components in the vehicle, so when it starts acting funny so do numerous other components in the car. Orders for new TIPMs were so abundant that parts became scarce, prompting a class-action lawsuit claiming Chrysler ignored this obvious defect.

By 2012 complaints dropped back down by about 80%. Needless to say, if you see a used 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee on a lot just keep walking.

Grand Cherokee Overland 5.7L Hemi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 93,000 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

Recently purchased a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland edition at a used dealership with 90,000 miles. I just recently had all 3 recalls done at the local dealership and now I'm noticing a skipping/stuttering/fish biting feeling when I get over 40 mph. Reading thru Jeep forums and I have yet to find a solution to this issue. Does anyone out there had any repairs done that have eliminated this feeling? Thanks

Grand Cherokee Limited 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 63,000 miles

Purchased a used 2011 Grand Cherokee with 5.7 HEMI and automatic transmission from a JEEP dealer in May 2014. First day noticed a shuttering, stuttering, skipping action of the motor. Returned to JEEP dealership where I was told all 16 spark plugs were changed and that was the problem. Picked up vehicle and started to drive home, same condition was discovered, returned to JEEP dealership, I was informed they would need my vehicle for some diagnostic time, I set up an appointment and left my vehicle with them for a week. Returned to pick up my vehicle and was told everything was OK. On my drive home the same condition existed, I continued home and called the JEEP dealership and informed them it was no better, As of December 1, 2014 the JEEP dealership has had my vehicle in for service a total of 5-1/2 weeks and still can't fix the problem. The latest report is "Chrysler/Jeep is aware of the problem; "it is only the 5.7 engine that does it and it is called FISH BITTING and there is no fix".

I cannot understand how an American Automobile Manufacturer make such a statement about such an expensive automobile. I urge anyone reading this "NOT TO PURCHASE" any Chrysler product especially JEEP. I regret purchasing this vehicle on a daily basis as I am not financially able to get out of it at this time.
