CarComplaints.com Notes: The fourth generation Grand Cherokee took the relatively trouble-free run of the 3rd-generation and flipped the script.
From 2010 to 2011, complaints about the vehicle not starting increased 10-fold. In fact, the 2011 model year is riddled with engine problems and a defective TIPM might be to blame. The TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) distributes power to all the eletrical components in the vehicle, so when it starts acting funny so do numerous other components in the car. Orders for new TIPMs were so abundant that parts became scarce, prompting a class-action lawsuit claiming Chrysler ignored this obvious defect.
By 2012 complaints dropped back down by about 80%. Needless to say, if you see a used 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee on a lot just keep walking.

Since I bought it at the dealership the car hesitates to start, I took it several times and they couldn't find the fault, they said it could be a problem with the battery so I changed it and it kept doing the same thing. thing, they told me what the tank was. of gasoline I took it to a Nhtsa office and they told me that they would change the part, over time I had the same problem again but now a year has passed and the car no longer starts, from the beginning they have not helped me solve the problem problem. problem problem that comes from the factory.
Check engine light flashing! Engine misfire and valve grinding a groove in the cam shaft from cylinder #8. There is a service bulletin issued but no recall or warranty coverage for repair and replacement! They know that they have a problem but don-??t want to pay for a recall to repair it! I still have all of the parts from the repair!
Fuel Cap recovery error light comes on and when taken to the dealership and diagnosed they replaced the fuel cap twice in 2 years. Still presenting the same problem. Engine Rocker arm and camshaft failure on 3.6L V6 Pentastar engine. Stability control problem when driving on rough highway roads at highway speeds makes the vehicle over correct in a left or right direction out of lane almost causing accidents. New shocks & struts, and check of the stability control systems has not corrected the problem
The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle failed to restart. No warning lights were illuminated. 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee stalled while driving. While slowing down to make a turn, engine stalled out. Power steering and power brake disappeared. If someone was at the light while I was turning, they would have been hit. The first time (known) - was two days ago, with mileage approx 110,000. The second time was this morning, while at a stop. On checking online, this has been reported by other owners of the same make and model. This is a safety hazzard and should be a repairable manufacture recall. Fortunately it hasn't resulted in an accident - yet - with this vehicle.
Greetings, after 3 dealership attempts to correct the TIPM - NHTSA 19V813000 recall, my Jeep still stalled 4 times at highway speeds. I narrowly averted being rearended several times. I am terrified to drive the vehicle! I have yet another dealership appointment Friday, January 12, 2024 to correct the issue. Previous visits could not reproduce the problem or show any code errors. There were no warnings at all during these malfunctions, only the loss of braking and power steering did I realize the vehicle had stalled. Are there any remedies afforded to me at this point from Chrysler? The vehicle has only 124,000 miles. I've been extremely lucky that I haven't crashed or injured another party to date, but I fear it could happen at any time since this is my only transportation to and from work.
My vehicle in the last 2 days has randomly shutoff completely while driving on the highway. I was able to place in neutral, then restart the vehicle thank goodness without being rear-ended or a collision. The vehicle has been repaired before (NHTSA Campaign ID: 19V813000) and (Chrysler's recall number V62). The vehicle at this point I fear is too dangerous to drive. I am going to have the car towed to the dealership in hopes of reinstalling the fuel pump relay hack. There are many of the same complaints online from other drivers with the same vehicle. Something else needs to be done about this soon before someone gets killed.
The vehicle randomly shuts off as I-??m driving. It happened about a month ago on a very busy highway and then again today on a major street in my hometown. I-??ve taken it to the shop twice and they cannot duplicate the issue or find a problem with it. I-??m nervous it-??s going to shut off at the wrong time and something bad happen. I don-??t know what to do.
My vehicles Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) was rewired at a dealership as part of a manufacturer recall. Ever since this has been "rewired" I have had problems with the car shutting off while driving, and as a result, a loss of power steering and power brakes. I notified the dealership, Rentschler Chrysler of Slatington, PA, and they state that everything looks ok with the wiring and that a new TIPM was not part of the recall. This issue has been occurring with my Jeep (2011 Grand Cherokee Laredo) since 2013, two years after I purchased the car brand new. I want to know why Chrysler was not ordered to replace the TIPM with a new part? This has been happening to my car frequently and I have known other people with Jeep, Ram, and Durango problems with stalling while driving.
This vehicle stops while driving. It happens when it comes to a stop or slow down. Will turn off. In some instances I have lost my power brakes. This has been happening since November of 2022. The dealership has replaced the recall part, the fuel pump relay. Still happens. They thought it could be low transmission fuel. No, still happened. They have driven it over 100 miles and it wouldn-??t replicate for them so they say they cannot fix it because there is no check engine light on. This is a safety hazard.
Engine stalled at highway speed on a highway, safety of family and motorists endangered as vehicle coasted to side of highway, vehicle would not restart, check engine light on. Codes indicated camshaft sensor issue. Inspection revealed by technician that timing components came loose from engine block and interfered with timing chain which in turn snapped causing catastrophic valve train component damage. Engine determined to needing replacement because of irreplaceable camshaft bearings in engine block. All failed components are retained for further inspection. Estimated repair is $5-7k. Warranty expired as mileage is 170000.
Tipm is malfunctioning constantly draining my battery, headlight flickers random check engine codes sporadically-?? just has been a complete nightmare trying to diagnose
The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the blower fan had become defective; as a result, the defroster failed to operate as needed. The contact initially took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who could not diagnose the failure. The contact then took the vehicle to a dealer where she was informed that the relay had burned out causing the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) to fail. The contact was then given an estimate for the repair of the fan, the relay, and the TIPM. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed her that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
Carbon like smell entering cabin, engine stalling, and check engine light on. Ginn Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Covington Georgia stated they performed the recall repairs for the fuel relay wiring harness in June 2022 and the brake booster recall fix last week. The break booster recall is still showing unrepaired, and the stalling, fumes entering the inside of the Jeep is worse. The Jeep did not have a check engine light show up until after it left the CDJR service center. Due to dispute with the dealership that sold the vehicle putting an extended warranty in the paperwork, that I was not provided in writing yet its cost was added to the Jeep, the CDJR service center claimed the Jeep required $5700 worth of work to its HEMI V8 5.7L engine but they could not begin the work until I consented to the warranty providers $450 fee to teardown the engine for further diagnostics. I could not consent to something I was not provided it writing, so the Ginn CDJR refused to move forward and claimed they performed the last recall repair. They have refused to provide repair records and invoices. They also stated the Jeep is "driveable" when notifying me they would not fix it. Three weeks prior, as it was in their service center for three weeks, the service center instructed me not to drive it.
Problem with the PCM. No warning if goes out. Car will die and not start back up. Will not keep a charge. Windshield wipers will go on without doing anything. Can't put windows up or down. All lights on bash will light up. Lights inside and headlights will go very dim. Not safe
Malfunction of the engine RPM governor, adaptive cruise control, or Electronic Throttle Control (ETC), or some combination of all of the above. On June 7-9, 2022, spontaneous high engine RPM occurred, which resulted in vehicle speeds that were above urban speed limits unless heavy braking pressure was applied. Additionally, on rural highways, the speed setting for the adaptive cruise control was exceeded without driver input. This also required manual breaking in order to control speed. During this situation, the -??driver override -?? message would appear although no accelerator pedal pressure was being applied. Additionally, the ETC warning light would randomly light up and then clear. When the vehicle was stopped and placed in park, the engine would rev to approximately 4000-5000 RPM. Especially in congested traffic conditions, this runaway engine RPM condition is a terrifying situation. This malfunction has occurred on this vehicle before, and to a similar extent. However, the Jeep dealer could find no underlying cause. The vehicle will also occasionally operate at a higher than normal RPM, but not to the extent described here. I do have an appointment with my local Jeep dealer for June 21. I will describe the issue with them in detail. My purpose for entering this report is to add my issue to any potential list of other Jeep owners who may have reported a similar issue.
The problem first occurred with check engine light coming on early November 2021 and 59,000 miles approximate. It was a code indicating misfire of cylinder #2. The gasket, fuse and coil were replaced on that cylinder on November 13th 2021. The misfire code reoccurred after replacement of all pieces named above. I am now in the position of finding out that my car engine (Pentastar 3.6L v6) was one that have been identified of such failure resulting in engine needing replacement. I have just gone over 70,000 miles and and now being told that I need an engine replacement. I believe that Jeep should be responsible to repair this issue or replace my engine as I was never informed that this problem existed until my engine has started to fail.
