CarComplaints.com Notes: The fourth generation Grand Cherokee took the relatively trouble-free run of the 3rd-generation and flipped the script.

From 2010 to 2011, complaints about the vehicle not starting increased 10-fold. In fact, the 2011 model year is riddled with engine problems and a defective TIPM might be to blame. The TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) distributes power to all the eletrical components in the vehicle, so when it starts acting funny so do numerous other components in the car. Orders for new TIPMs were so abundant that parts became scarce, prompting a class-action lawsuit claiming Chrysler ignored this obvious defect.

By 2012 complaints dropped back down by about 80%. Needless to say, if you see a used 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee on a lot just keep walking.

My right running light has gone out multiple times, and now they tell me there's a wiring problem. At the same time, all the doors but the driver side door will not lock with the power locks - FOB or inside button.

Brought it in and they told me it's the TIPM issue and that will have to be replaced.

I locked my Jeep with my purse in it to walk about a park in a fairly large city. Came back to find the doors unlocked. This happened to me twice. Another time, same day, the doors refused to lock with either the keyfob or the manual switch on the door. I just took my purse with me, then. This too is another issue attributed to a bad Totally Integrated Power Module. It acts like it is possessed. Doors either refuse to lock or unlock themselves. Answer, live with it and never know when you might not be able to lock the doors or they unlock themselves to allow thieves to take your cargo, or..... pony up $1,200 to replace the bad TIPM even though Chrysler/Jeep is WELL AWARE of the issue with the TIPM they so far have not stepped up to offer a replacement.

Locked my Jeep and when I came out after getting off work at midnight to find my Jeep sitting in the dark parking lot with the lights on. It alarmed me, I wasn't sure if someone was inside it! But, nope, just another random-possessed thing the TIPM causes. Not sure if the fact that it was raining has any significance on the TIPM unlocking my Jeep, but it has unlocked it before in broad daylight in bright sunshine, too.
