Traveling at 55mph on Rt. 264 W. in Virginia Beach, VA the right rear tire "exploded" with no warning whatsoever and sent my vehicle out of control coming very close to impacting vehicles on either side. I regained partial control and got the vehicle onto the shoulder. My family was shaken but o.k. State Police arrived. Upon inspection there was very little left of the tire (I will upload pics). Vehicle was brought to "Discount Tire" where close inspection of the remaining tires showed steel belt protruding from the front right tire. I was amazed. The vehicle had recently passed state inspection and was well within wear limits. I paid to have the (2) obviously failed tires replaced and asked Goodyear Customer Service to pay to replace the remaining (2) - all were bought as a set from Walmart. Goodyear Customer Service refused and now I must pay for the work as no one in their right minds would drive around on the remaining (2).. There's a 50/50 chance they would fail as well! It is my understanding these are not their "top of the line tires", but I must ask when it comes to safety what possible difference can that make? We depend on our government to properly test such basic safety related items that can cause death and damage in a moment to any family. I hope the NHTSA will/does thoroughly investigate all Goodyear tires, but especially these sold primarily at Walmart if I understood correctly. This is an incident that simply should not have occurred and even after the fact of TWO of these tires falling apart on the same vehicle, their corporate headquarters refused any responsibility; financial or otherwise.. not even an apology!

My complaint is with the Goodyear fortera H.L. tires.they tend to hydroplane even on a level surface and rain water is evenly distributed across the roadway.even brand new set has same problem.it seems to me that it is due to the sidewall tread pattern.I have brought it to East hills Jeep (greenvale, N.Y.) and they say it's not their problem.I took it to Goodyear, (freeport, N.Y.) and the store manager says that he has sold them but has never noticed that on the right side mounted tires-the sidewall tread pattern faces forward.on the left side mounted tires the sidewall tread pattern faces the rear. These tires are on the Honda, Pilot. The Chevy, traverse. The Ford, edge and the Jeep Grand Cherokee 2008 which I own....sometimes when I am in places like shopping malls, and I see other drivers of the fore mentioned vehicles I will ask them if they have had unwanted hydroplaning with their vehicle and they respond yes, I point out that I believe it's the tire.I also show them that the right side faces forward and the left side faces the rear and most of them say they never noticed it until I've brought it to their attention. I rotate my tires about every 6,000 miles.I try to keep a good wheel alignment and this problem persists. I obtained a second pair from the dealer and yet another from Goodyear and even their mechanics did not notice until I spoke up and pointed it out to them. Almost everyone I've spoken to say they never noticed this before.one mechanic at Goodyear went back inside and checked to see if these tires are considered omnidirectional, and found that they are not. Also even reading reviews on this tire, I found no one who seems to get more than 35,000 miles off these tires. Can you help me get to the root of this complaint.or is it just me ? please give me some feedback.

2008 Jeep srt8 purchased in December 2009 with brand new tires. Less than 30K miles and found front tires separating on inner edges with plenty of tread left and alignment within specs. I found this yesterday when I decided to do some maintenance repairs as I am a Jeep technician and I work at a Chrysler dealership. The front tires are completely separated with threads exposed. This is extremely dangerous as I drive this vehicle with family at highway speeds. I have pictures if necessary and can provide alignment specs. I am a member of the Jeep srt8 forum and this is a common issue with many members.

My 2008 Jeep/gr.Cherokee has Goodyear-fortera tires on it. I have noticed that the tread around the sidewall has 2 different directions. One turns slightly forward and the other slightly to the rear. I have tried to contact Goodyear who hands me back off to Jeep for an explanation.upon my most recent tire rotation, I pointed this out to the head mechanic. He replied it does not matter, it does not serve any purpose. I disagree. I don't think they put them on there for no reason..I have taken the truck to a Goodyear tire dealer and he said the tread pattern is supposed to push water away from the vehicle. I walked the man around the vehicle and showed him that both ties on the right side of the vehicle face forward while the 2 tires on the left face the rear.shouldn't they all face the same direction? I have seen these tires on the Honda/Pilot, G.M.C./traverse, Ford/Explorer and Ford/edge. I have asked other drivers about it, but no one has noticed until I spoke on it. I find it hard to believe that nobody else seems to see a potential problem here. Please help me-I have taken pictures of this situation and would be glad to send them to you.I can't possibly be only one who notices this.

I bought a 2008 Jeep srt8 at the end of December 2009 in Florida with approx. 18900 miles on it and got a full certified warranty with it. I drove it to Minnesota where I live and do not drive it much at all. I have put around 4900 miles on it since then and at best buy putting in new headlights they told me my front tires tread was separating. I already had a appointment scheduled the next day to have the dealership fix the leak in my roof for the second time. The inside tread on both of my front tires was really bad and the dealership said I should not drive it till it gets new tires. I was at a dealership about a month before (fixing leak) and they didn't mention it at all. If the dealership didn't notice it how would I" best buy noticed it and they don't even fix Jeep srt8S, what would have happened if it blew on the highway" I am not a heavy foot driver, it drives perfectly and I have never hit anything with the car. Looking online it seems this is a huge problem with everyone who has a srt8 SUV. I have also had my ac unit replaced, and taillight rewired, airbag control module, esp bas light in dash fixed. When bringing it to the dealer to get it fixed, it seems like its the first one they have ever seen, and just assume that its my driving that causes this. I have only seen 2 other Jeep srt8 in real life and most shop people I talk to have never seen one driving let alone worked on one and knows the problems with it. The dealership blames the alignment caused it since the ball bearings were fine to them.the rear tires are fine on the vehicle just the inside of the front and cant find anyone that can explain why they are doing this. I paid 586 dollars to get 2 of the same factory tires with alignment. I do not feel like I should have to pay for new tires and the alignment for it. I think Goodyear and Jeep no there is a serious problem with the tires and they are still making us pay for it when its there fault.

Goodyear tire tread separation on 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee srt8: Both front tires (gy Eagle rs-a 255 45R20- run flats) have delaminated leaving me to limp home when the left front tire suddenly went to zero air pressure and that's when I first noticed the problem. This is obviously a very common problem in this tire (see forum thread: www.cherokeesrt8.com/forums/showthread.php?T=24831&highlight=good+year+tread+separation) I saved the tires and have pictures. I also have alignment specs showing it was within guidelines. I have since replaced the tires at my expense with another brand.

I was heading to California from el paso, Texas on the 13th of may, 2009. We drove to blythe, California and stayed the night. We didn't want to drive throughout the night. The next morning we headed to torrance, California. Within 50 miles out of blythe, my back right tire had blown out. We heard a hugh loud noise when it blew out. I lost control of the 2008 Jeep Cherokee with only 9000 miles immediately. I finally got control of the vehicle and pull over to the only area that was possible. My brother in law was following me in front and my good friend behind me. They all saw and heard the blow out. I had my wife and two boys in the car. I am so lucky I got control of the Jeep. If I would of hit the break immediately I feel that we could of easily had a roll over. The tires were all in great condition. The blow out took out my right bumper. I am a registered nurse and have worked in the er and have seen many roll overs. I was afraid for my family and myself. I have also have witness a roll over myself.
