I was driving back from NOLA and was around the Houston area. I heard a pop that sounded like a loud shot & heard a rattling noise. I pulled over and realized the sunroof had exploded.
I called a my insurance and told them the car wasn't drivable because I was freaked out. I was going to have it towed and go to a hotel. When the tow came he mentioned they would charge to tow it to storage until the morning, fix it, plus I didn't have a cc for car rental or hotel. He recommended I find somewhere to break out the rest of the glass and said the shade should hold. I was surprised when I was because it was not even real glass, it broke apart easily and I swept it up carefully without pulling the shade and drove back to Austin afterwards. I traded in the car and have a new jeep (no sunroof). I love Jeeps but this was unacceptable. It's happened before but there is no recall because you don't lose control of the vehicle.
It's still a BIG safety concern and if it happens they don't fix it or cover injuries or damages? This seems wrong to me so I want to report it online so that people can keep the shade closed and be preventative or know it's unsafe to have the sunroof.
