The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. The contact stated as he started the vehicle, he noticed fluids leaking from the transmission. The dealer replaced the plugged adapter guide bushing to correct the failure. At 29,500 miles, the contact was driving 20 mph and attempting a right turn when the transmission slipped and the vehicle would not accelerate over 10 mph. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the console shift was repaired. At 34,500 miles, the failure recurred and the vehicle would not accelerate over 30 mph. All four transmission gear selector warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was drivable yet the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The dealer advised that the software would need an update to correct the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 27,000 and the current mileage was 34,600. Updated 11/16/10 the consumer stated the vehicle is still not shifting properly and stays in first gear too long. Updated 11/16/10

Own a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4X4, bought 4 mths ago, I can be driving it down a road and all the sudden it loses power like an acceleration problem, then it will suddenly just take off very quickly, the transmission keeps slipping, I can be on the interstate going 65, take my foot off the gas to slow down some and hear a harsh shifting problem. I have taken it to the dealership 3 different times, each time they tell me there is no problem with the car, I agree with the other complaints on these issues which I have had them all in 4 mths. Windows get stuck and won't roll up and down, car has not started 3 times and had to put in a new starter, crazy dangerous acceleration, shifting issues with the transmission!!!!!!!! I have owned a 1995 Jeep Cherokee since 2003 and no problems, got this one and problem after problem. This acceleration/ shifting issue is going to kill someone if this car isn't recalled for this problem!!!!!

Bought used 2007 Grand Cherokee from adams Jeep, aberdeen md in Nov. 2009. Within first month, while traveling around 30 mph, car would not accelerate when pushing on gas pedal despite engine racing. Prnd lights all lit up. Took car back to dealer and bezel gear selector replaced after paying $100 deductible on extended warranty. Same problem occurred 5 months later. Dealer charged me for electronic control module updates. One month later, same problem occurred, dealer replaced bezel gear selector again. One month later, same exact problem occurred. This is 4th time taking car in for lack of acceleration while pushing on gas pedal. Dealer states unable to fix problem since they cannot reproduce it. This is a huge safety problem as I have almost been hit multiple times when my car fails to accelerate when pushing on gas pedal. Chrysler needs to recall the shifter module in these cars before someone gets killed.

Driving at highway speed in drive, transmission downshifted into 4th gear without manual assistance. Pulled over to side of road and attempted to shift back into drive unsuccessfully. I then shifted into park and back into drive. Dashboard indicator said the transmission remained in 4th even though the shifter was in drive. Shut vehicle off and then restarted the engine. I then put the vehicle into drive and resumed my trip. Also, on a second occasion, driving with transmission in drive, starting from a stop, transmission downshifted into 1st gear. Pulled over and shut off engine and restarted. Put transmission into drive and resumed trip with no further problem.

My daughter was driving her 2007 Grand Cherokee away at college. Several times as she was driving along the roads with traffic, the transmission seemed to go neutral and all gear indications lit circled as though it was in all gears, but was not "driving". when it finally kicked back into gear it accelerated quickly. She had to break and pull over several times this happened. We had the car towed to a dealership and they replaced an electronic module. This could be a deadly failure. Two dealerships' service departments I have asked have heard of it but say it isn't a widespread problem, a sales manager where we bought it claims never to have heard of this.

Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) re: 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4X4 problem: Dangerous shifter module defect to whom it may concern: Last week, my wife was bringing our children to school, and upon leaving the driveway, the transmission jumped, the car jerked back dangerously into the open street, and all of the lights illuminated on the dash (P, N, R, D). Fortunately for us, she was able to return the car to the drivway, unharmed. Living on a busy street, we are very lucky that it happened without any accident/injury. As this is the second time something like this has happened, I am now afraid to let her drive this car any longer, upon contacting Jeep/Chrysler, I was told that they would not be able to cover this safety repair (approx. Cost is $1025.oo w/tax, parts, labor). I am downright frustrated, angry, and fearful. After reading scores of ofher similar complaints about the shifter module on reputable sites like edmunds.com, my frustration with Chrysler has increased. They simply won't concede that there is a dangerous safety flaw with the shifter in the vehicle. Please, any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. [xxx]

Today while driving on a highway at approximately 35-40mph my vehicle stalled. I had come to a complete stop and was awaiting a traffic light change. When the light changed and I stepped on the accelerator the vehicle began to hesitate and jerk and the esp/bas light, malfunction indicator light (check engine) and a message stating transmission over temp came on. I was in the left lane and immediately put on my flashers. The driver behind realized that I was in trouble and put on his as well. After I was able to roll to the shoulder, I immediately turned the vehicle off. After waiting approximately 5mins, I restarted the vehicle and continued to drive slowly and carefully to my office since I was just 2 blocks from work. This experience scared me because had this happened while I was driving at the 60-65 mph rate on this very busy highway, I could have been hurt. After reading several of the other complaints, I can also relate to the complaint about the tires having had to replace a broken stem after owning the vehicle only 2 days and I currently still have water leaking into my vehicle on raining days on the passenger side and now through the lights. I drive on the highway daily and after today's stall out, I am afraid to drive this vehicle. I called the dealership today and explained my issues and told the service manager about all of the lights and he told me the car was probably cold and if the lights don't go out I can bring it in on Saturday. Well today is Wednesday and I will not drive that car again. Since the dealership is quite a distance from my home, I will have the car towed so that it can be checked out. I am very uncomfortable with the idea of ever driving this vehicle again. I Transport children as part of my job from time to time and I could never forgive myself if something was to happen to them while we are riding in this vehicle.

The transmission in my 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo started clunking loudly when I shifted from reverse into drive. The service engine light will come on after this occurs. The problem was intermittent, then, one day I was sitting at a red light. When it turned green, I stepped on the gas pedal and the vehicle would not move. It acted as if was in park. I shifted it to park and back into drive several times and suddenly the vehicle slammed into gear lunged forward into traffic. I reported this problem to my dealership (the vehicle is under warranty) who told me no codes registered in relation to the service engine light having been on and that they could not duplicate the problem. They returned the vehicle to me and two days later the same transmission clunking began and the service engine light came on. I left a red light today and the vehicle would not shift from first gear into second. Finally, it shifted, slamming into gear, with a loud, hard clunk that shot my vehicle several feet ahead. I almost lost control of the vehicle and would have had an accident if a car had been ahead of me. It's back at the dealership who claims there's nothing wrong. The car has only 21,000 miles on it. Clearly, there is something wrong and I fear for my safety and cannot simply go buy another vehicle.

My vehicle stalls without notice losing power but not actually shutting off. At other times it acts like it is hanging in 1st gear. On numerous occasions it has nearly gotten me hit by oncoming traffic or nearly rearended. I have had it checked out 3 times by the dealer and they say they are aware of the problem but no recall has been issued by chryler to fix problem. I have a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

There have been several people with the 2007 wk crd that have reported that their vehicle has died on them while driving. Reading about this on Jeep forum, I discovered that there is a tsb related to a faulty crankshaft position sensor on wk Jeep that were built before June 12th, 2007. My Jeep was built in April, 2007. While my Jeep has not stalled, it is my wife's vehicle and she is frequently transporting our two children. The tsb calls for checking and replacing the sensor if it fails, but I do not find this to be acceptable. If the vehicle were to just die while they were going down the highway it could result in serious injuries to my wife and kids. I believe that Chrysler should do a recall to replace this sensor before anyone gets hurt.
