Check engine light continues to come on at random. When it does, problems accelerating. Car will not accelerate past 20 or sometimes car "sputters" jerking a lot. Sometimes at red lights, rail road crossings, anything really where the car is stopped, car will not resume driving and car sounds like it is in neutral and I am reving it up. Electronic dash puts a bracket over each gear, P R N D, all at once. When engine light is on it is on for a period of days. When I turn the car on and put it in to drive it makes the most horrible sound as if I backed into a wall and jerks. Sometimes on the highway when the light is on it's as if I smell something burning through my air vents. Everytime I take it to the dealer or any shop just for a diagnosis it's just my luck that the light turns off and they tell me my car is fine. This car needs to be recalled from looking at the complaints!!!

1. my 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee (5.7 hemi; 64K miles) was due for a tune up. I purchased replacement spark plugs that were recommended from a local auto parts retailer and changed them. 2. subsequently the vehicle began to stall frequently while driving (approx 5 times in 25 miles traveled). This happened while driving at highway speeds, at stoplights and when making left hand turns. 3. vehicle was taken to dealer for service as engine light had also been on during entire time. Dealer worked on trying to find problem for 3 weeks. After consulting a Chrysler engineer they finally discovered that the aftermarket platinum tip spark plugs were causing interference with the vehicle powertrain control module and causing the engine to stall. Dealer replaced the spark plugs and the problem was corrected. I went back to my parts supplier and they had never heard of this problem before. I also notified Chrysler of my complaint that consumers and parts supply retailers should be made aware of this parts incompatibility issue that they are obviously aware of because it is a potentially serious safety hazard. They have not responded to me.

Grand Cherokee

  • 24,982 miles
I purchased a 2007 used Jeep Grand Cherokee from kelly Jeep on 3/11/2010, with an odometer reading of 24,758 miles. This vehicle has stalled randomly seven (7) times since the date of purchase. It has been returned to the dealer's service department three times and each time they have not been able to duplicate the cause of the stalling. The stalling occurs after a stop and then attempts to proceed into a turn at low speed. It occurs more frequently when a right turn is being made. The engine stops and all electric energy are lost, just as though the ignition was turned off. Braking assist and power steering are lost. I have provided the dealer a document listing and observation of each of the seven events. Several have places me in a comprising position and if traffic had been heavy could have resulted in a serious accident. The vehicle always is able to restart after it stopped, the ignition turned off and placed in park.

Vehicle loses power at interstate speed. Incidents: 5-30-2007. Wife was driving vehicle on interstate. Vehicle just turned off after loosing power. Wife pulled to shoulder of road and put into park. Restarted engine. No 'check engine light". took vehicle to dealership for system scan. Sonya rechtorovic at landmark Dodge (770-968-4900)checked vehicle into repair. Received paperwork which says "customer states while driving on interstate, vehicle shuts off. No codes in system. All systems operating as designed. Test drove vehicle and could not duplicate concern." Incidents have happened again on 7-1-2009, 7-4-2009 and on 7-6-2009. Lost power at interstate speed while driving. Engine light did come on, and I pulled to shoulder of road and waited a few minutes. Took vehicle to two different dealerships. "joe brooks" at douglas county Dodge at 770-942-1102 and vic daniel at landmark Dodge at 770-968-4900 or 678-251-2327. Both dealerships stated "out of warranty and would be $100 just to scan the system for errors". I took vehicle to autozone and had vehicle scanned for free. Received error code "U0404 code- invalid data received from gear shift control module". seen recall D46 for 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee to reprogram PCM. I believe my 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo has this issue. Called Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403 at 1045 am on 7-6-2009 and spoke with "dan thomas". dan looked up my VIN number and stated that "no recalls are for this vehicle and if a recall does come out, then a letter will be mailed to you".
