the gas tank skid plate had rusted from under the gas tank, it also SUPPORTS the gas tank. Jeep used solid steel on all the skid plates except the gas tank which is layered steel- which I feel is a GREAT design to catch and trap water. which rusts out form the top down. I had taken the jeep to a jeep dealer for power steering pump service( another piece of garbage crysler designed to fail!!!), The had the jeep on a lift, but never informed me of he condition of the gas tank skid plate. I noticed it after the service due to servicing my own radiator( which failed also). I had ordered a new skid plate on line for less then dealer cost- Nothing can be done but replace it. Unfortunately some of the bolts on the old skid [plate had snapped due to being seized.I had to drill and tap new holes because the nuts that hold theses bolts are inaccessible inside the frame members( another jeep screw up) This repair took 2 days. The dealer wanted over $1000.00 for the job, I did it my-self. Why they used layered steel for this skid plate makes no sense except to generate revenue. over all Jeep is building jeeps to fail after so-many years/-miles- so you go and buy a new one- I can't tell you how many calls I got from the dealer wanting to sell me a new one. I would sell this one but dealer only offered me $2500.00 for it >:/
I will NEVER buy another crysler/jeep/dodge product.
