After my Grand Cherokee had the "N23" recall performed on it by the previous owner, the "service 4WD" indicator comes on and disables my transfer case shifting. I clear the codes and it works again for a short period of time then the codes return (C1406, C1405, C140F) disabling the shifting again. This appears to be a common issue with Grand Cherokee according to the information I have found on jeepforum.

I had N23 recall done on my Jeep in 8/2013. I have had my Jeep to 3 dealers 9 different times. Since the recall my 4wheel low/ neutral has not worked on Jeep. I have had my actuator replaced and the final drive controller reprogrammed many times. The issue will fix for a day and then back to say fault code. My service 4wheel drive light comes on when I try and engage it. I have contacted Jeep corporate and have been working with them but I don't feel they care. They have had me taking my car to all these different dealers and everyone says its something different and say they fixed it. I have been out of 800 or more in gas, 160 in diagnosis fees, 170 in tow bill from one dealer to another, and 600 for actuator. I have only had my Jeep serviced at Jeep dealers and it has always had all scheduled maintenance on time. I feel that the software that was installed on my Jeep has caused all these issues. I never had any problems out of my 4wheel drive system. My first recall letter stated that my transfer case may experience a transfer case actuator encoder electrical failure that results in unintentional transfer case shifting into or through the neutral position. My Jeep has been showing the same 4wheel drive code since the recall. I had to pay to replace my actuator cause they said it went bad after the recall. I feel like I have been taken advantage of I paid 51,000 for my Jeep and have taken very good care of it. Someone has got to do something so Jeep will fix everyone's SUV. There are many others in this same position as me its posted all over the internet. This has been going on for 5 months and still no solution.

Driving on the highway and the entire dash board lit up, blank a few times, and then went dark. Nothing on the dash board was working (no mph, gas gauge, etc.). after a few minutes of blinking and going dark, everything begins to work again, but the check engine light comes on. This exact scenario has happened multiple times. Usually the light will stay on from anywhere between 1-5 days and then go away. I have been dealing with this issue for over a year. In once instance, I was driving around the city going 10-15 mph and this scenario happened and the brakes were not working properly and the car was very hard to turn. Everytime I have brought the car to the dealer they try to pull a code and nothing is available for them. At this point I am fed up so I am officially reporting the issue. It is completely unsafe to be driving when this happens, especially when you are on the highway. Let's hope something is officially done before anyone gets hurt.

However, they say that this vehicle wasn't included in recall as it was not manufactured at the same plant where the other vehicles were that mandated the recall.

My Jeep has been slipping out of gear while driving frequently and all the car does is rev, as if it is in neutral. This has happened off and on over the last two years and nothing has been done about it. I have taken it to the dealership multiple times and they tell me that everything is fixed. Then it happens again when I least expect it. It is very dangerous for this to be happening while I'm driving with my 2 year old daughter in the car. I called the Chrysler recall number and they told me that I was not included in the recall and to just take it to the dealership, which I have already done several times and am tired of wasting my money. This is happening to my car and I don't want to wait until an accident happens. I will continue to log complaints and document each time this happens until something is done.

I received a recall letter in June 2013 from Chrysler recall N23/NHTSA 13V-175 transfer case actuator. Stating software was not available just yet to fix. Then in August 2013 received a second recall notice explaining that the software is now available for the recall to be resolved. All I have to do is go to a Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealership and have the software reprogram the final drive controller module.on August 13/2013 I had the recall serviced at johnson Dodge dealership in budd lake NJ ( 481 rt 46 budd lake NJ 07828). They did service my vehicle for said recall. The next day and everyday since I have a warning light on my dash stating""service 4WD system". I read the car manual and did some trouble shooting, but light still on. I tried to put vehicle into 4WD lo, as instructed by the car manual. Result, is doesn't go into 4WD lo, warning message still coming on. I made an appointment (August 22/2013) for the same dealer to inspect this issue because I do believe possibly something was either done incorrectly, or wrong software. End result from second visit to dealer is, my transfer case actuator needs replacing !! ($600 plus tax). They will replace it, but I feel the two issues are related, and I should not have to pay the bill. The dealer reinspected all above components and stated the software is not working properly with the actuator? so end result is they want to replace the actuator. My original recall letter said I may have a fault in the actuator, but the second letter stated for the new software to fix all. The dealer said thats all they can do! call Chrysler and see what they say. Tried to call a second dealer, ( dover Dodge in randolph & rockaway NJ) and still waiting for a call back. I then called a 800# for Chrysler a customer hot line (800-992-1997) given to me by dealer, those too, I'm waiting on a resolution. I received the safety recall notice N23/NHTSA 13V-175 in the mail and called a local dealership to try to schedule a service appointment to have this corrected. The dealership is don white's timonium Chrysler Jeep Dodge located in cockeysville, md. I called on the phone twice to attempt to schedule this service and was disconnected both times. Then, I proceeded to try and schedule an appointment online thru their live chat service and was told that I would be contacted by the service department to confirm my appointment, but I never was. I just thought someone should know the lack of professionalism I experienced and the message I received from this experience is, "we do not want to deal with your safety recall." I have since scheduled an appointment at another local dealership.

While driving my vehicle suddenly shifted gears as if it were in neutral while rpms shot up rapidly to 3,000. It then suddenly lunged forward and picked up speed. The check engine light came on. After a day or so, the light would go off. It was very scary to have it change gears and not be able to maintain speed and suddenly speed up again while traveling with vehicles in front of me and behind me. You essentially have no control of the vehicle in that moment, nor do you have any warning that it is about to happen. Drivers around you also have no warning that your car will suddenly slow down or lunge forward. Most of the time I have to pull over and put the vehicle in park and then back into drive for it to work. Happens at any given time, whether im going 5 mph or 65 mph.. even on highways. Can be very dangerous.

Sequence of events: This has been my sons car since I purchased in 2008. [xxx] who was at college in greensboro, nc. [xxx] phoned me one evening, April 17, 2013 and stated that his Jeep would not go out of 2nd gear and all lights came on and named the engine light", ?bas?, traction control etc. He also stated that ?it jerks when accelerating and stopping?. he parked the car and my husband/[xxx] called cottman transmission in greensboro the morning of April 18th. We were told that nothing showed on the diagnostics and they needed to take out the transmission to assess. The cost would be $450. After taking out the transmission, we were told that it needed complete replacement. They proceeded with the transmission replacement and my son picked up the Jeep on April 24th. I paid $2,185.77. As cottman stated the power train control module" was the original cause of problems with this vehicle. I never received a recall notice for any part on this Jeep, possibly because the dealership I purchased it from closed several years ago. On the date mentioned the vehicle described became locked in place unable to shift gears. The vehicle was towed into the dealer and the work performed. This involved the replacement of the transmission transfer case. At the time I questioned the possible reasons for the incident and received no answer. The total cost was in excess of 3000 dollars paid by me. I have since (upon conducting research) learned that the Chrysler Corp. Has reluctantly issued a recall for this exact issue. It was issued in may of this year. The Agency report specifically characterizes the electrical transfer case issue. I made repeated calls to the Chrysler Corp. And have been rebuffed with the explanation being "your VIN is not included in this action." I find this incredulous. My vehicle, a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee absolutely falls into the recall category. The invoice (#[xxx]) I received from world Jeep where the repair work was completed identifies the cause and repair as transmission/transfer case 2168cpdca. The case number I was given by Chrysler Corp. Is identified under # [xxx]. the recall campaign number under your Agency 13V175000. It is carried by Chrysler under campaign number N23. I cannot understand the arrogance of a corporation such as Chrysler in light of such absolute evidence to the contrary of their stance. I am requesting your assistance in this matter. Accelerating from the start will hesitate and feel limited to power.transmission hard shifts at time and clunks forward when decelerating then accelerating.

The check engine light would come on and go off..I was driving around 60 mph the car shifted into neutral and lost power...I was able to steer to the side of the road but I was in three lanes wide of traffic on the highway and had I not been in the lane closed to the side of the road I could have been badly injured. Within the time frame of three weeks it happened 4 times...all when I was driving highway speeds except once the car shifted into neutral on its own and powered down when I was at a stop sign in town. The check engine lights comes and goes so fast by the time I can get to a repair shop and have it scanned its usually off. I was able to scan it once and it read a code for "transmission control module"...the car runs great but I don't understand why it just powers down. How many people have to get injured from this failure before someone fixes it! this is absurd!
