2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Larado - The door panel around the door handle chips away until the door handle falls in on all four doors on my jeep. The door panel are extremely expensive to replace. When I called the jeep dealership they said it was wear and tear and they would not cover it. But I have a 1976 Ford dually that the door handles are fine on and there has been alot more wear and tear on them than 6 years with a jeep.
Called FCA and complained! Asked them why they chose to use the same type plastic (just on the handles) as the did on ALL the 2001 Dodge truck dashes. They all crack and break! The dealer(s) want $800+ per door panel, I found all (4) handles at 'Morris 4x4' for $100, plus push pins and panel removal tool. Two hundred is better than $3,600. Took my son about (2) hours to replace them. At the least they should refund me the money I spent to fix their problems. What if someone gets into a bind and can't get out? Does anyone care anymore?
I have the same problem that others have with the door panel. I tried to fix the drives side, so I went and a bought a kit. After 4 hours on the driver side I never attempted to do the passenger side. Chrysler should step up and replace these door issues. The plastic crumbles and its very hard to open the door so. Please Chrysler FIX IT. We owner's paid lots of money on our vehicle for this to happen.
Same story as other posters.....this is my 16 year old daughter's car - noticed the rear passenger door handle had broken off. Of course I blamed her friends for treating her car carelessly, but started looking at all of the other door panels and the area around the handle, and they are ALL cracking and in danger of the handle breaking off. This is DEFINITELY a flaw in the make of the vehicle, and at over $500 a panel to repair on a vehicle that only has 49,000, that is ridiculous and OBVIOUSLY not wear and tear. Too many folks are having the same problem - Chrysler has got to step up and repair/replace.
The only fix is replacing entire door interior. The door is designed to unlock but not open. But everyone pulls cause it's a handle. If a lock pops off, a door could become unlatched.
Like everyone else with this problem - because of the fact that in an accident the people in the car will not be able to exit, this is an extreme safety issue. Chrysler-Jeep need to step up and consider this an item that should warrant a recall.

The door panels on the 06 jeep limited seemed to start to fall into small pieces resulting in the handle breaking away from the door panel. Thus making the door inoperative.
