Normal door use, door handles cracking then breaking. Worried about safety. Unable to exit door in an emergency. Would have to be let out. Nothing done to repair. Three out of the four are broken. Jeep will not recall or repair. Only way to exit vehicle is to be let out from exterior.
When opening my doors the door handles started developing cracks and eventually cracked into several pieces and the handles are no longer attached to the door. Calls and a visit to a dealer left me with the only option to replace the entire interior door at over $200.
2005 jeed Grand Cherokee failure of interior door latch handles due to cracked plastic door panel which prevents operation of the door from the interior. This has occurred on 3 of 4 doors with the 4th door possibly failing in the near future. This is a severe safey issue preventing occupants from exiting the vehicle in an emergency. There are numerous reports on the internet. Although, internet reports are frequently unreliable, there are hundreds of postings discussing this condition. Further, at least one report indicates that Chrysler has agreed to replace the door panels for a $50 co-pay; but my contact with Chrysler was not successful. This is a serious issue that merits consideration for a recall.
The door panels on our 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee cracked around the door handles. The door handle broke and the rear door will not open, trapping the passengers in the rear seat.
Unsure of the specific incident date. The failure is the plastic molding around the inside door handle for 3 out of 4 doors. The plastic has broken, exposing the inside mechanics and allowing for the handled to extend further than necessary. This makes exit questionable as the door handle is only holding on to the latch without any place for leverage. In the event of an accident/emergency, if the door was to be involved it is possible the handle would suffer further damage and be unable to operate. There has been nothing done about replacing the part. It costs roughly $700 per door to repair.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. All 4 interior door trim panels have cracked and broken surrounding the door lever making it impossible to get out of my car. This issue has happened in numerous 2005 Jeep. Recall is needed.
2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee - interior door handles broken all of the interior door handles on my vehicle have broken. Apparently the only available fix is to replace the entire door panel assembly. I have solicited quotations for each panel, and the lowest offered price has been $750/panel. Based upon the fact that 4 of 4 handles have broken in the same manner, I believe it sound to conclude the handle suffers from a hidden vice or defect. Luckily, I live in a state that allows recovery for breach of the warranty against redhibition. However, I can only imagine the disappointment and anger for like consumers who have no recourse to address this defect. Please do the right thing and persuade the manufacture to remedy via recall.
I own a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and all of my door handles are broken and/or missing. This causes massive concern for the safety of any passengers in my car. You cannot operate the doors from the inside and if we get into a wreck, they would be unable to get out of the vehicle. I have researched this problem online and it is ridiculous that the parts are so cheap and Jeep will not do a recall to fix the problem. Most consumers do not have $2000 to have the doors repaired with the same cheap plastic to end up in the same situation again. Please Jeep, do something about this problem asap!!!!!!!!
2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited hemi engine, door panel cracks leaving handles broken off in rear, two front door handles show signs of severe cracks, loose. Contacted local dealer who said they would cover a portion of the replacement, no recalls were issued etc..this vehicle on occasion has children as passengers and I would think Chrysler would be concerned for the safety of passengers with door handles that are broken. It appears that the material that these parts are made of are very low quality and I am shocked that the manufacture has not stepped up to the plate and paid for the replacement. After what I have read on blogs and on line about the same complaint from other Jeep owners, this makes me consider not buying another Chrysler product in the future.
Notice cracks on 3 door panels about 2 1/2 years then about 2 years ago all 3 panels broke in peices now its very unsafe as doors will not open from inside car 2 front doors an 1 rear door...
17jan11 -- door handle faulty -- I own a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee that two have cracked at the door handle. If they continue to fall apart the vehicle occupant will be trapped within the vehicle. I have contacted Chrysler and they are not willing to fix or help with the $1,400 bill for just the two door panels. If the battery were to die you would be trapped in the vehicle, or if you were forced off of the road and ended up in a lake you could not get out. My friend has explained this to Chrysler and they do not feel that it is a concern that they have to worry about. I explained that I would send pictures of the vehicle to show it is in excellent condition, and garage kept (no damage to the vehicle), adult driven. Why did the other two panels crack, they have no answer.
2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. Both front and rear passenger door panels have broken and cracked. The pfront passenger door handle on the inside is now inoperable. It is now permanently inoperable on a vehicle with only 31,000 miles on it. So far the dealer claims no recalls are available and the price to replace is about 800 per door.
Door panel handles cracked on all 4 doors, unable to exit the vehicle from the back. Passengers are unable to open door. Plastic cracked and finally gave way in the rear of vehicle, front doors are cracked and very close to giving way. Huge safety issue here. Defected materials, date indeterminable of issue based on defects.
2005 Grand Cherokee Laredo the door handles are made of a defective plastic and brakes into several pieces living the door handle unable to open the doors from inside. For people who have children this is a safety issue because if you are in a wreck or in case of a fire the passengers in the back seat is unable to open the door. I believe Jeep should recall the door handles at no cost to their customers. I have a 2005 Jeep and 3 of the 4 handles have already broken. I have checked into fixing the problem and the cost would be $400/door and this is unacceptable do to the fact the cost of vehicles are at a record high you should have to replace door handles ever 5 years. I have always drove a Chevy. Or Ford product and have never experienced such a unacceptable problem. I am starting to doubt my decision on purchasing a Jeep product.
I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited, and all of the interior door panels have cracked around the door handle release. My concern is that the poor construction or the door panels and the latch mechanism will cause occupants to be stuck inside when the door handles eventually fail. The vehicle only has 36000 miles, and is very well taken care of, and this poor quality construction is unacceptable.
Vehicle had bird droppings on hood. Washed off same day and ate right through paint down to metal. Jeep will not cover repairs. Noticed that clear coat either does not exist on this vehicle or is very thin. Noticed other spots where bird droppings have left marks on paint and chips in paint all over vehicle. I have owned several vehicles and never have seen paint this bad.
***several problems with 2005 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 3.7*** just after purchasing this vehicle in Feb 2006 dealer had to replace the air conditioner because it would only work at one speed. After that the transfer case and shifter had to be replaced, next the windshield began to leak molding the carpets, next the steering wheel began making loud clicking noise when making deep turns, vehicle also has severe hesitation when going up hills, now my mechanic says there is transmission fluid all under the vehicle. Have also bumped my knee against the key resulting in stalling. Worst of all only getting 12-14 mpg!!!!!!have owned Jeep in the past, very unhappy with this one.
