The contact owns a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Ever since the vehicle was purchased, the contact has experienced several failures with the windows. When proceeding to roll down the front passenger side window, it drops down into the door jam. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they determined that the regulator assembly failed. The window was repaired at the cost of $450. While driving 25 mph, the rear driver's side window also dropped down into the door jam. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they determined that the regulator assembly failed again. The window was repaired at the cost of $106.50. One year later, while driving 65 mph, the driver's side window dropped down into the door jam. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and is in the process of being repaired. In addition, when the contact opened the sunroof, she was unable to close it back. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the motor failed. The vehicle was repaired. The contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 239 and current mileage was 20,230.

We were driving our 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited down an open highway (no trees, no cars around, etc.) at about 65 mph, and the sunroof exploded. It sounded like a gunshot, extremely loud. Fortunately, we did not have the interior roof open, and the glass that shattered did not get inside the vehicle. We explained the situation to the Jeep dealership, and they said the repair of our sunroof would not be covered under the warranty since they had never heard of this happening before. We noticed on the NHTSA web site (via another complaint) that this had happened before to someone else, and the scenario is almost exactly the same -- same vehicle, same year. The other complaint shown on this site was logged February 2005.

While driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee on I495N going about 65 mph with the sun roof fully closed, the sun roof glass exploded, showering glass throughout the car. Initially I thought someone threw a rock and struck the window, but we were not near an overpass, nor were trucks or other cars closs enough to toss a rock up in order to hit the moonroof glass. A rock was not found in the car upon inspection. The local Jeep dealer said that it must have been a rock that hit the window and therefore would not be covered under the warranty. I think the window just failed from either stress or from a manufacturing defect...but how do I prove it?
