I have the same problem as thousands of other 2003 Grand Cherokee limited owners, a blend door malfunction, which causes the passenger side of the vehicle to blow cold air even if the heat is selected at hi. The problem was noticed at 68,000 K and my estimate for repair is $1,000. It is dangerous to drive in bad weather as the defrost only works on the drivers side. But on the bright side the air works really good in July when I don't need four wheel drive.

Passenger side of car blows cold air from all vents, including the defroster vent. This is due to a broken blend door on the passenger side of the vehicle. This is most certainly a safety hazard due to the fact that I can only see out of half of my windshield when it is cold outside. Thousands are having this same "design flaw" problem while Chrysler sits by and does nothing. The cost to fix this common problem is ~$1000. If Chrysler is aware that this is a design flaw, yet continues to ignore the safety issues associated with it, then we have a major lack of corporate responsibility.

Climate control system on 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited (32,000 miles) will not direct heated air to passenger side of vehicle resulting in very limited visibility to right side/front of vehicle during cold weather. "blend door" has been identified as reason for problem. Should be repaired/fixed by dealer.

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee - passenger side heater blend door failure -- always blows cold air on passenger side. This is a very common problem with the 1999-2004 wj. Chrysler Canada has refused to do anything to help me fix this without paying $1400 as my dealership (tower Chrysler in calgary, ab) has quoted. Vehicle was just out of warranty when this occurred. See the following site for an example of what you would find when you search for "blend door" on google: www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/showthread.php?T=771954

Blend doors failed leaving my vehicle without functional defrost function. I took care of this before winter where visibility would undoubtedly be affected.

Automatic climate control system blows only cold air from the right side even when high heat has been selected. Thousands of Grand Cherokee are affected by this problem. Repair costs are in the $1200-1500 range. This should prompt a recall order.

It appears as though 1999 to 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee have an issue with "blend door" failure in the HVAC system. The failure will prevent heat from reaching the windshield. In freezing conditions the windshield will unexpectedly ice up and result in poor visibility. After speaking with dealership and independent repair technicians as well as internet research, it appears the failure rate is "very high". the manufacturer has revised the faulty parts used in this system (tsb#2400104) but are doing nothing to alert owners of the potential, unexpected failure.
