My '01 Jeep Grand Cherokee's heater stopped working on the passenger side. It only blew in cold air. I brought it to my mechanic and it was a blend door failure. Leading up to it, I had noticed an odd sound coming from the HVAC after I turned my engine off, but ignored it as it worked properly. The passenger side has now stopped working. Searching on the internet, there is apparently a tsb #24-001-04 concerning this problem. If it is a common problem, it should not simply be an informational tsb, but rather a recall. Please help everyone here with this problem.
I was driving today and my windshield began to fog I turned defroster on hi heat and all it did was blow cold air and it made windshield worse. I almost crashed!!!
I own a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited with 87,000 miles. The events leading up to the failure of the ventilation system were (1) rapid fogging of front windshield, (2) fogging of front passenger windows, (3) failure of passenger heat while still maintaining driver heat function, and (4) only cold air release on passenger side of Jeep. Consequently, (1) the windshield and front windows do not defog, and (2) no heat whatsoever comes from the passenger side floor and dashboard ventilation system. To correct this problem, a "blend air door" is necessary at a cost of approximately $1,200 inclusive of 7 hours of labor. According to the certified service department at the local Jeep dealer and online forums, this has become a very common problem for 2000-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee limiteds with duel zone ventilation systems.
Malfunctioning air conditioner blended diverters. I have the 2001 Laredo and my A/C directional blenders are malfunctioning. I have the manual system which is supposedly less complicated but it seems even the simple ones malfunction. I only have 65,000 miles.
My 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee will not provide heat on the passenger side, only the driver's side. The vehicle also has some sort of electrical short and the entire system, including the radio will reset and start. In addition the fuel system is reluctant to pump fuel to the engine on a cold start. The dealerships advised me that the car is not built to last forever and the fuel issue and heating issue was typical. The expense however would be extreme for the heating and fuel issues to be $800 to $1200 for each repair.
For several months I have been unable to defrost windows due to the common blend door problem with 99-04 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have gone to several dealerships to have an estimate and have been quote over $1000 on all occasions. Although I am without heat that is not my concern. It is the safety concern of not having the ability to defrost windows during extremely cold temperatures. I feel that this is huge safety concern for customers living in cold areas on the us. This is a problem that Jeep is aware of and happens on way too many vehicles to go unaddressed. Jeep should at least be forced to cover some of the cost for this costly defect. Please ensure that something is done about this.
The 1999-2004 Grand Cherokee is built with blend doors to control the heater and ac function. The doors are controlled by a stepper motor that seeks an open and close setting every 20 times the Jeep is started. The end points for open or closed are set by a plastic pin that is part of the plastic door assembly. When this pin breaks, the stop points become the open and closed position of the door. Eventually, the doors will break(see picture). The most common fail mode is for the broken door to fall to the bottom of the box, blocking the heater core no heat. Also, in this position, the door does not do an efficient job of blocking the heat input, and the ac efficiency suffers. The door can also hang in a position where it closes neither the heater core nor ac condenser inlets. When this happens, you have a constant mixture of heat and ac?too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer. - the factory solution is to replace the doors and housing with an upgraded part that has a stronger plastic pin to withstand the constant opening and closing when the stepper seeks its beginning position. The repair entails removing the dash panel, steering wheel, all vacuum and wiring harnesses, draining the coolant, evacuating the ac system, and finally removing and repairing the heater box. Quotes will range from $1200 to $2200 for the repair...if you can find someone willing to spend two days disassembling the car. It's not difficult, just detailed, and evacuating and refilling the ac refrigerant requires epa certification. Dealers don't like to do this because it ties up a technician for an extended period of time and the chances of missing a wire or messing up the re-assembly is high. This is a design flaw! they are aware of the problem and no longer use the same parts when they fix it. The consumer should not be responsible for the outrageous cost of covering their mistake.
Driving to school one day and heat stopped working on driver side. Started to blow cold air instead. The consequences are that it is really cold when driving in the winter. I am a college student and don't have the money to fix the mid-case blend assembly and the air recirculation assembly. Repair shop cost is $900.
No heat on drivers side. Passenger side marginally blows air. This is a recurring problem with this vehicle--all years! Jeep must be fully aware of it since there are so many complaints and they have a "fix", but at a high cost to the consumer. I will never buy another Chrysler product again.
No events lead to this. Both front seat heaters stopped working. Very prone on Jeep. More recently, blend doors, heat/air controls stopped working. Half hot and half cold. Very prone to Grand Cherokee. Faulty design.
Heat never worked on passenger side of vehicle. Now told $1500 to fix. Living in warm climate allows for not fixing. Finding that many people experiencing same problem with this same vehicle. 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee w/dual climate control.
2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. No heat on the passengers side in the winter, ac doesn't work correctly according to the dial settings. Defrost and defogger doesn't work as should. Have to have the drivers side window open some to be able to see and keep the windshield clear. Windshield fogged up too quickly once last winter and I put the vehicle in a ditch at 5am in the middle of winter. Got a small cut over the right eye. My understanding I will have to get the ac/heat blend doors and actuators replaced in the unit which requires the dash to be removed and cost is over 1000 us dollars. The parts are inferior and made of plastic and as I can see by the number of complaints on the internet there are many, many failures. I have not had the repair done because it's just too expensive.
My '01 Grand Cherokee A/C and heater is uncontrollable. Fan comes on but no air from vents.this seems to be a defect that is not uncommon with this model.several online sites show that this is not an isolated situation.60 K miles and Jeep tells me that its out of warranty and they will not help.
The dual climate control door and actuator on heater/ac failed and only blows cool air. The dealer says it will cost about $900 to fix and said it was a common problem on my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Too much to fix!
(1) none (2) the heater to my 2001 Grand Cherokee limited no longer functioned, only cold air flowed from the air vents regardless of the temperature selected. (3) I took the vehicle into a Jeep dealership and they told me the blend doors were broken and needed to be replaced to fix the problem. The estimated cost was $1,400 and the extended warranty I bought from Chrysler did not cover the problem. I am still saving up money so that I can have the repair done. This has caused great discomfort to myself and my passengers these past two winters.
The HVAC system in my 2001 Grand Cherokee Jeep has gone out on both the passenger side and the driver side of my vehicle. I feel there should have been a recall on this items from Chrysler Corp. I understand there has been a problem with this mid-case blend assembly for quite some time. Now it is going to cost over a $1000 to replace. I believe it should be seriously considered for recall because of the safety hazard of driving. The afternoon it went out, I was leaving from work and a blinding snow-blizzard came, the temperature dropped and I ran off the road, due to the my windows icing up and fogging up...I had no way to defrost them. I had to drive a considerable distance to get home. I put my vehicle in 4-wheel low and managed to get out of the ditch, but I was extremely lucky and very cold when I did reach my home.
