Left rear tire failed and blew out at 70mph. The good thing is the tire deflated rapidly with no loss of control of the vehicle. On inspection of tire it was found that the inner side wall had a rectangular rip/patch from the rim to the tread. There was no debris or other road hazards when the tire failed. All four tires have less than 25000 miles on them.
The contact owns a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The vehicle has Goodyear Eagle R-sa tires, size 255/45/R20. The vehicle was in a stationary position when the contact observed that the front driver and passenger tires exhibited severe tread separation. The vehicle was taken to an independent tire facility for inspection. The tires have not been replaced at this time. The contact had concerns of the safety risk involved. The failure mileage and current mileages were 16,536.
Since the purchase of the vehicle, especially on the highway, there wa S vibration and shimmying when braking, . had the rotors turned, replaced, and turned again. In May 2004 found that all of the rotors were warped. In November 2004, they did find a very slight vibration, but they did nothing about it. Took vehicle to dealership 5 times, and is taking was back in next week. This resulted in replacing the tires early.
The rotors were warping and caused the brakes to wear prematurely. The dealer was notified. The transmission displayed slipping and there was a flat spot on the tire(s).
Tire failed at sidewall for unknown reason. No road hazard damage found. No tread damage found. Tire jack failed twice, resulting in near-injury to state trooper assisting us. Tire jack is insufficient for weight, height of Jeep gr. Cherokee. I had same tire jack failure on my 1997 Jeep gr. Cherokee and reported it to Chrysler then (via the dealer). Goodyear, merithon ST225/75R15, coachman, catalina 5th wheel rv. While towing with four wheels on ground right front tire shredded. There was a lot of damage.
I called pitre Chrysler/Jeep service director following the blowout of my right rear tire and asked if he any knowledge of tire failures of this Goodyear tire. He said he had no knowledge of blowouts with Goodyear Wrangler. I told him I read an article about Wrangler tire failures a few months ago. He said I was mistaken and that even though the 2000 Jeep is under warranty there was nothing he could do for me. I find this suspect, especially coming from a person of his position at pitre Chrysler/Jeep. Please feel free to E-mail me or call if you have any information to the contrary. While driving about 70 mph left rear Goodyear Wrangler St (P22575R16) tire had a blowout, and kept control of vehicle. Drove off road where a technician told consumer that he was driving on low air. 225/75 R16, Jeep, Grand Cherokee, 2000. Dot #M671ekwr.
