Due to pulsing of the brake pedal and vibration in the steering wheel the dealer turned the rotors and replaced the pads around 20,000 miles (we paid the bill). The rotors and pads were replaced again around 40,000 miles by an independent mechanic. On a trip to the store the right front caliper would not totally release pulling hard to the right and heating the rotor / pads to the point of smoking. The right front aluminum wheel rim was too hot to touch; the caliper and rotor were replaced which remedied the problem.

: the contact stated while driving 20 mph on dry asphalt road conditions, the wheels locked up. There were no warning signals prior to the incident. The vehicle was taken to the service dealer who determined that caliper locked. The service dealer recommended that the contact call NHTSA for potential recall information before providing repairs. The manufacturer was not contacted. The contact agreed to keep the old parts after the repair.

I own a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD. I had begun to notice a shudder when braking and took the vehicle to my local repair shop (midas). They advised me that I would need new rotors, pads, and calipers on at least the front brakes. They also told me that this is a recurring problem with Jeep and that a technical service bulletin had been given to them referring them to this problem. What I don't understand is; if this is a problem that Jeep knows about and the braking system that is safety related, then how can it not be a recall. The mechanic told me the calipers have a problem of 'sticking', causing uneven rotor wear and shoe failure. I bought the vehicle used less than a year ago, and now have no real recourse to get the problem fixed.

I purchased my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2002. Chryser purchased it back from the original owner due to a brake issue. The dealer assured me the problem was resolved. Within six months the vehicle began to shake violently upon braking. The dealer resurfaced the rotors and it was okay for a few thousand miles, then began the severe shaking again. Chrysler and the dealership have refused to provide a solution. We have since replaced the rotors by an independent mechanic and the problem has re-occured. I have since read numerous complaints on the internet about a bad design that continues to warp the rotors.

I had a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with about 35,000 miles on it. In the course of my ownership (about 3 years) I had the brakes worked on at least 3 times. The first time they replaced the rotors, the second time they replaced the rotors and the calipers. The 3rd time (after the warranty period) they replaced something else and then had the gall to charge me for it. Fixing brakes at a rate of about every 12,000 miles is absolutely outrageous. I can't believe this vehicle has not been recalled to actually correct the problem. It is a serious problem that can cause loss of control of the vehicle.

I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and when braking at speeds ranging from 30mph (city driving) to 50mph(highway driving) the brakes started pulsatiing and the steering wheel started shuddering violently. This has happen to my SUV twrice before around six months after I purchased the vehicle. The first time it happen I wasn't aware of how to obtain this info and I paid for repairment(learning curve). The second time the problem reoccurred I found NHTSA and the proper tsb, armed with that documentation I went back to same dealer they said they fixed the problem at no charge tsb bulleton help alot, well as god be my witness it is happening again as of right now. I went back to the same dealer with documentations (history of same repairs) they want to charge me to get it repaired. I told them I wasn't paying jack I didn't pay on the second time it happen why now, anywhy I told the service advisor that I want it in writting that they are not going to honor the tsb as far as no charge to me the client. I feel why should I be liabiel for their design flaw.

My 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee has experienced braking failures on as a result of front rotor defects. On two occasions the front rotors were repaired by a Jeep dealer. In the first instance, the rotors were excessively warped causing severe front end vibration that produced loss of steering and braking. In the second instance, and 15000 miles later, the condition reoccurred. In this second case, the dealer found the rotors to be warped again and replaced both the rotors and the calipers. Although the dealer placed the blame on the driver, I have heard other year 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee owners complain of identical rotor failures. In both cases, the dealer service agent acknowledged the problem but would not take responsibility although offering a discounted repair cost.

I own a 2000 Jeep grand cheerokee with 52,000 miles. Today I brought the vehicle in for the 4th time to have the rotors resurfaced due to warping. The dealership has also replaced the calipers and pads on the front and back of my vehicle. The dealer is very aware of the problem and said it is only a matter of time until the brakes are recalled. In the meantime, I am driving an unsafe vehicle.

Grand Cherokee 8-cyl

  • 50 miles
I own a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. Every 5000-7000 miles, a serious vibration arises when breaking at speeds greater than 50 mph. I have had the problem serviced 6 separate times over the past two years. The car only has 54,000 miles on the speedometer. All brake rotors and calipers have been replaced (more than once), but the problem keeps recurring. Jeep representatives no longer want to deal with or repair the problem.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4X4 V6. The steering wheel and brake pedal would pulsate horribly and shake when applying the brakes. This problem was due to the front rotors which were not covered under warranty eventhough there are 2 technical bulletins from Jeep covering this problem. Dealer replaced the front rotors, calipers, and pads as suggested by the bulletins. #0500302 - cost of the repair: $552.22.(2) dealer informed me after fixing my brakes that the the rear differential has a high-pitched axle. This is caused by a faulty rear differential which needs to be redone. Not covered under warranty. #0300302A - estimated cost of repair $932,

Grand Cherokee 4WD 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles
Vehicle has 43000 miles. When applying the brakes at speeds over 50mph front end shakes making the steering wheel shake almost uncontrolably. Brought vehicle to the dealer who stated that they and the manufactorer were well aware of the problem and there was currently no recall. They stated that the front calipers were "catching too long and not releasing at the right time." Dealer stated that there was no safety issue but that the calipers would need to be replaced as well as the rotars. They were unaware of wheter the extended warranty would cover the charges.

The consumer is experienced a recurring problem with the brakes. The problems are as followed: Shimmying, squeaking/squealing in the brake system, shimmy/shake in the steering wheel, and warped rotors. The vehicle is was still under warranty, but the consumer was told that there was no way possible that this problem could be covered by warranty, and learned from the dealer that they are aware of the problem, which is a caliper problem. (which indicates that the problem will occur again) the rotors were refaced and resurfaced, and the pads were resurfaced. Refer to ODI#768226

Right front aluminum wheel rims gets too hot to touch. Rims seem to get hot according to temperature outside. Dealer can't duplicate problem. The right front caliper would not totally release heating the rotor and causing vibration, the caliper and rotor were replaced which remedied the problem.
