Engine just shut off no warning or nothing at any given time problem started 8/21/2017, had it repaired so I thought, Auto repair diagnostics said it was fuel injectors, tune up, and some other type of sensor. Problem occurred again on 9/28/2017 - repairman totally confused as I, so diagnostics this time showed oil pressure sender switch needed replacing. That didn't do it either today same problem occurred. This very dangerous and you can see the engine just stops no warning or nothing and the jeep is hard to turn to get out of traffic to come to a safe stop - this problem with these jeeps are an fatal accident waiting to happen. There should be a class action lawsuit to get this solved by the auto maker.

Just recently I backed my jeep out of my driveway and it stalls right in the middle of the road. Tried starting it but it just cranked. Put it into neutral and still would not start. After several minutes and in Park I cranked it over again and it fired up but real hesitant like. Finally it got up to the proper RPM. I headed down the road and was in the process of making a right hand turn when the jeep just abruptly died. The power steering, brakes, everything just shut down. I had a difficult time turning the vehicle, actually going all the way into the oncoming traffic but was able to get it back into my lane luckily avoiding an accident.

I have heard there are too many of these vehicles on the road and Chrysler is not doing anything about this.

This is not the first time I have had these issues. I have changed everything from the fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel injectors, crankcase sensor, camshaft sensor, ignition coils, O2 sensors, TPS, IAC, fuel pump relay, everything at least once and some twice. Some said to not use aftermarket parts and use Mopar only. Done that and still the issue continues. Sometimes I can go for several months without a problem. Once I went nearly a year and a half before the problems came back. Its constant and its annoying. I'm afraid to let my family members or anyone else drive this vehicle. You never know when its going to happen.

Gary from TX wrote in Sept of 2015 that a class action law suit should be filed and I agree. So count me in Gary. This Chrysler POS is a fair representation of what their engineers are designing and I for one will never recommend a Chrysler product to anyone ever again. Just NOT SAFE.

This by the way is not multiple problems that I have listed. Its ONE problem that you have to spend multiple dollars on multiple parts just to get your vehicle going until it repeats the process again and again and again.

Good luck with your fix.

My1999 V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited - stalls and stops under any condition, whether I am driving on the highway at high speeds 65 mph or stopped and idling in heavy traffic. This is alarming and dangerous as I was nearly rear ended, when the engine just shut off. I noticed as the engine stalls and Check Gauges light is on. Initially all gauges look ok, however moments later the fuel gauge shows Empty and security KEY sign is on. If you leave it these for 5 or 10 minutes and keep ignition on, if fuel gauge moves (showing not empty) it will start and you can drive off. If traffic is heavy it may stall again quickly. The Jeep is now stalling after approx. 25 minutes of driving. It may or may not start back up after a short rest. Sometimes it starts the next day.

The engine was scanned for trouble codes. There are no trouble codes being reported.

This is an extremely dangerous situation, and Chrysler should make this repair at their expense, as it is obviously a manufacturing defect in workmanship or, software or hardware issues. The Jeep had a software update in 2001 from Chrysler at the dealership at their expense.

There appears to be a faulty circuit from computer system to sensors. When stalling occurs and fuel gauge shows empty; the computer shows NO Communication with PCM.

For no apparent reason, the JEEP just stalls-quits either at a stop or going 70 mph. I would wager that many have died from this GIANT problem. It nearly killed me the other day. Chrysler use to be a dependable car until they started loading them down with these faulty computers and sensors. NO car should have an onboard method of any kind that will shut down an engine for any reason!!! Just look at all the people experiencing the same problems on the internet. Can you image a 747 jet liner having such crap loaded on it?

The best fix for this piece of junk is to get read of it before someone is killed!!! I know its an expensive choice but its better than death. The computers, sensors and any other such electrical devices in this JEEP get old and will kill you when they fail. A class action law suit should be placed on Chrysler for building such a death trap!!! Most mechanics can't identify the source of the problem because they can't afford the testing equipment, and wouldn't know how to use it if they did. Most just change the computers and sensors until they change the right one at your expense!

There is no way I'll ever own another JEEP or Chrysler vehicle. What happen to American Engineering? Don't they know that not everyone can afford a new car every year? Why kill those who can't!!!

When ever I am driving the engine shuts off. sometimes it starts right back up and sometimes it don't. it did that while I was turning off the highway and almost got hit. I have taken it to the shop different ones and they can't find why it's doing that. I have kids and want it fixed for there safety. how am I supposed to know what the problem is and the cost, I get so angry about this. it also did it on the rail road track when the bars was coming down while I had my kids. I am just glad it started right up. Or I would have had to pull them out and leave it. Can I get help on getting this figured out

THE ENGINE WILL STOP WITHOUT WARNING, GAUGES DON'T REGISTER BUT THE ENGINE WILL CRANK OVER WITHOUT STARTING.

THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES. I DISCOVERED IT INITIALLY AT A DEALER PARKING LOT. IT CLEARED OVERNIGHT AND I COULD START IT. AFTER SOME RESEARCH I STARTED REMOVAL AND RE-INSERTING PCM FUSE AND IT STARTED MOST OF THE TIME. MY SON LATER REMOVED THE PCM RELAY AND REINSERTED THE RELAY. IT NOW HAPPENS QUITE OFTEN AND SOMETIMES REQUIRES CAR TO BE LEFT FOR A FEW HOURS OR OVERNIGHT. THIS BECOMES DANGEROUS IF ON THE FREEWAY.

I SUSPECT THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM PREVIOUSLY ATTRIBUTED TO THE PCM BOARD SOLDERING. I CAN PICK UP A USED PCM MODULE FROM A "U-PICK IT" LOT BUT I AM CONCERNED THAT IT MAY STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

While driving and stopping at traffic lights, car shuts off and on 2 occasions has felt like it is not going to run, starts jumping and bogging down.

Despite a number of complaints and several UTube videos there hasn't been any (admitted) complaints of recalls from the manufacturer. The assumption is that this is a problem on all Jeep Grand Cherokees in the model year range of 1995 to 2001. The "fix" is reported to be to remove the PCM board and resolder the connectors (free and tedious) or to replace the PCM board yourself ($400-$500) or to have a dealer do it ($800-$1100) typically aftera diagnostic($100 - $200) and assuming that this intermittant problem can be detected.

My 1999 Jeep GC stalls at any time. How many deaths are out there from this issue? Know one will ever be linked to the stalling out problem, because it won't show up on the PCM board! We don't know how many deaths are from this issue. I can't sell it, I cannot even give it away! Blogs from the WWW have said they have replaced just about everything, and still not fixed the problem? Are they nuts, not one recall on this issue! Stalling out at 75 mpr, NO BRAKES, NO PST, NOTHING!!!!! All you can do if your thinking right is to slam it into N, turn the key and hope it starts back up so you can have brakes, PST. All that in a sec. You'll be DEAD by then, if you are driving in any large city like L.A., Denver, KC.,etc. Jeep needs to address this issue now before more people get hurt, or dead!!!!!!

I've owned my Jeep for about a month and really didn't have any issues until the other day. I was only going about 30mpn, went over train tracks and it stalled, then cut off completely but started right back up. About an hour later it did the same thing while driving. I had to wait about 15-20 minutes and was able to start it again. Yesterday it happened about 4 different times through the course of the day. The first time I was stopped at a red light, started up within a few minutes. The second and third time it took over an hour to start. The last time I was on the highway going about 70mph and it cut off. Again it took over an hour to start back up. This is extremely frustrating and a big safety hazard. I see other people on here with the same or similar issues and need to know how to fix this problem. I refuse to go to the dealer to get robbed for something that could potentially be a small fix. I need a working and reliable vehicle. I need answers!!!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!

My1999 V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 1J4GW68N7XC6889389- stalls and stops mostly in heavy traffic condition. stop and go at slow speeds. Some times it stops also on cruising at 80 or 90 kmph. It happens about 3 to 4 times a day at slow speeds or cruising. what I have noticed as engine stalls and Check Gages light is on. Initially all gages looks ok. Within 2 or three seconds fuel gage shows Empty and security KEY sign is on. If you leave it these for 5 or 10 minutes and keep ignition on, if fuel gauge moves (showing not empty) it will start and you can drive off. If traffic is heavy it may stall again after a kilometer or so. If you can drive at about 80Kmph it goes for about 30 to 40 minutes and stall again.

Twice I gave it to two different agency workshops and got the wiring checked and cleaned. On both occasions it worked without any stalling for 5 days and started to stall again. In both occasions there was no error code displayed when checked with computer. When stalling occurs and fuel gauge shows empty; the computer shows NO Communication with PCM. Stalling problem is not there in winter on Highways. I can drive 500 to 600 km in one go. But as soon as it enters heavy city traffic it stalls with loss of power and fuel gage shows Empty along with other gauges.

I Got crank position sensor replaced at the workshop but problem persists. Also tried swapping of the ASD and fuel pump relay. Checked all cleaned all wiring harness. Still problem is existing for almost 2 years now. If Batteries are removed overnight, it generally behaves ok (Not Always) for 3 or 4 days and problem reappears.
