1st issue is the seat belt buckles are almost impossible to disengage. They hang up so bad our 10 yr old grand daughter needs help to remove the belt. The belt for the driver has same issue to where it is even difficult for an adult to get it to unlatch. 2nd issue is the transmission slips when shifting from 2nd to 3rd when cold. When it has been driven for a few miles it shifts normal. This appears to be a problem a lot of Jeep owners have. It is a noted problem in other Chrysler vehicles with the 42re transmission. This issue should be addressed since it is so wide spread.

My complaint involving my vehicle and its now defected parts or unsafe status to operate is due to mechanical workmanship. I purchased my vehicle 3 years ago. Never had major problems with it and maintained it well and regular tune-ups. I invested in buying all parts needed as time well ware and tare. Im not too familiar with auto parts or work but as im putting more money into "new parts" my car seems to slowly continue to fail. All I know is I relied on certain mechanics to improve the condition of my car. I had a operable vehicle until I drove into this auto shop and left having to tow it out. I simply asked to change front brake pads, roters, and ignition switch (electrical part). Im told to purchase other parts that include screws, steering column, and key locksmith/ fees. Nothing got resolved and electrical everything stops working. Jeeps front driver tire stays on a flat and to make matters worse a Chrysler dealership is the only place that can fix this. The mechanic spoke to the dealership and finally seemed to have it figured out. $50 was the price I was told I would be left with. After running test and diagnostics, prices changed and more work was needed. Its been a little over 2 months since ive been without. Now im told I need to pay in full $1500 before they will work on my vehicle. I havent been offered a rental muchless been satisfied with the work done. I feel like my car has been stripped of paid parts. Ive looked online for advice and help as what I should do but no action has been done. I would appreciate and greatly be thankful for someone to look into the safety and work performed to my Jeep. As for the recalls the service tech named off several that he stated were taken care of. To my knowledge ive never been aware of any.

I would like to know why Jeep/Chrysler has not done any recalls or fixes involving the powertrain control module (PCM) since it is a known issue with Grand Cherokee?!!! instead they want customers to go out and spend approximately $200+ for a new one and even more $$ to have dealer install it. I love my Jeep don't get me wrong, but Jeep dropped the ball big on this one. Just about as bad as the gas tank issue.

Please provide an update on the data below. I'm extremely nervous about the fuel tank mounted defect and ignition switched that shut off while driven. My vehicle has shut off while driving. I have experienced all the issue as the previous owners regarding my Jeep including the headlights issue. On January 21, 2015 I have contacted the Chrysler corporation regarding the recalls and per lynn the recalls were only for Jeep Grand Cherokee from 1993-1998 and Liberty from 2002-2007 but the reports states "additionally, Chrysler also agrees to conduct a service action for 1.14 million Jeep Grand Cherokee for model years 1999-2004." My uncle has a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and his vehicle has a trailer hitch to protect the gas tank. I have notice several models from 1999-2004 Jeep with trailer hitch mounted to the vehicle. There is controversy about the trailer hitch modification to resolve the issue but I would feel safer driving this vehicle if a trailer hitch was installed as Chrysler has committed to the public. November 2009: Center for auto safety submits formal request asking National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to investigate 1993-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee's with fuel tanks located behind the rear axle. June 18, 2013: Chrysler agrees to conduct a safety campaign and install trailer hitches on 1.56 million Jeep Grand Cherokee from 1993-98 and Jeep Liberty SUVS from 2002-07. Additionally, Chrysler also agrees to conduct a service action for 1.14 million Jeep Grand Cherokee for model years 1999-2004. Chrysler dealers will inspect those vehicles and replace aftermarket trailer hitches with original equipment trailer hitches. Jan. 17, 2014: NHTSA says it approves of the proposed trailer hitch remedy, saying it has no reservations at this time, and giving Chrysler the green light to move ahead.

No significant events, occurred while driving at 45 mph, no precursor to event occurring when ever driven after 40+ miles, engine shuts down with out warning while driving, nearly drove into utility pole due to lack of power steering with no 'check engine' light obd tester did not identify any locked faults, replaced auto shut down relay, same problem, cannot afford to take to dealer to throw parts at it, can not fix what is not broken, must wait until check engine light comes on or an accident happens. Has also shut down approximately 9 times slowing down for a red light while driving and 3 times while sitting at a stop light. The tachometer jumps up and down and then down to zero. The last and most dangerous event occurred on 12/5/09.

Broken window motor, seat belt mounting bolts, leaking rear shock absorbers, etc... the consumer felt Jeep should fix the outstanding problems with the axles and the transmission and give a warranty for the power train. The vehicle experienced a noise while in motion. Also the broken window lift leaked, the rear absorbers failed, the rear passenger window leaked air, the seat belt mounting bolts failed, and a potential fire hazard on the manifold debris shield, the brake pedal pulsated wildly(front were rotors turned), the passenger window had stuck shut, the exterior mirror had broken off, and the transmission slammed into reverse. There was a buzz in the rear which had progressed to a howl. Refer to ODI# 10027025

At highway speeds of 40 to 65mph, I am hearing a whine comming from the undercarriage. I presume it is from the transfer case or the front drive shaft. Would like to know how to resolve this problem. This is my second Jeep, and could be my last if I can't resolve this problem.
