During my 2nd week of owning this Grand Cherokee, I decide to go visit Philly which is about a 45 minute drive away, so naturally I take a freeway. I drove at a safe speed of around 60mph since I had previously had a Honda blow all of its head gaskets after driving 30 minutes at close to 70mph. Halfway there I get caught in traffic and the engine temperature had been fine up until I'd been in traffic for 10 minutes and the temperature gauge was nearly at its limit. At this point I'm at the top of a small bridge and hope I can pull over when I get off to see what's wrong. Naturally with my luck, seconds after, the sound of something bursting along with a cloud of smoke come out from under the hood. I thought that was the sound of another engine explosion and the end to my short time with the Cherokee.
2 weeks have passed and so far I've been told that the sound and smoke was a burst radiator caused by fan failure. Also a broken head gasket and an estimated $400 in parts so far. I was also told by a friend that this was a known common issue with this model. I wish I'd known earlier so I could've had it checked.
