The person that examined the vehicle, believed the fire was a direct result of a defective rear-mounted unprotected zj body fuel tank system. The individuals in the vehicle were involved in an accident, which they would have survived, if it weren't for the design of the fuel tank.
Fuel guage is not registering correct level of fuel in vehicle. Dealership informed her that it sounded like fuel sending unit could possibly be defective, but her vehicle was not included in recall 97V194000. The part that Chrysler sent to mechanic was the recall kit part, vehicle was manufacturered 6 months after recall, however still experienced exact problem of recalled vehicles.
While driving highway speed 65 mph, the Jeep began to slow down until driver had to coast to the side. Fuel gauge showed a quarter of a tank. Sensor in gas tank was cause of erratic operation. Fuel tank must be kept full for proper performance.
